Help picking a fishing EDC

Yep - if that was an original Bill Scagel knife, in that condition, it would likely be a $20k knife, and I would be a very lucky man.

Knifemaker Bill Shirley (Northwoods Knives) acquired the brand a while back, and produced quite faithful reproduction "Scagels," for a number of years, of which that B&T is an example. in 2010, he sold the brand and the rights to Derrick Bohn, who is now producing them with actual manufacturing being done by BRKT and others.

While not an original Scagel (good luck getting one of those), they are still awesome, very well made knives, built with the same materials that Scagel used (except for some of the more recent examples that incorporate micarta).

I fillet over 20+ trout a year with a stainless mora companion. Great fish/boat knife, if they are over 3 lb I will reach for my 9 in fillet but I have done a pretty good job on 6 to 8 lb sockeye on the river with the mora.

My big fillet is a cutco fisherman solution, great flexible hollow ground blade and adjusts 6 to 9in, the sheath is a little gimmicke but tough with a stone.
Rip a lot of salmon every year with this knife.

In a pinch my military has been a great fish/fillet knife, good blade ergo's for the task.
