Help picking a RESCUE knife

I carry a Spyderco Assist a lot. It's good for more than just rescue, but it's excellent for that. It has the glass breaker in the butt, the finger grooves give it a positive grip under any conditions, the combination of large opening hole and cobra hood make it the surest opener, even with heavy gloves.

Has anyone actually used the glass breaker on the Assist to break a car window and if so is it effective?

Thanks.

You Why don't you just go fixed? It would be faster, stronger, more durable, even lighter in the case of this Benchmade.
If you are going with a fixed blade, another possible candidate would be the Boker Cop Tool.

Rope cutting hook, serrated blade, chisel/prybar. About the only thing I would change about this tool, is that the handle scales and lanyard should probably be hi-viz orange or yellow, instead of "tacticool" black.

Im a retired firefighter and dont recall ever using my knife at a scene. I carried a large folder in my coat pocket. The guys who carried Leathermen used theirs constantly. The Surge has a serrated blade with a safety point.

After talking with a few custom knife makers, it looks like cost is going to force to me to get a production knife. The Spyderco Assist is looking pretty good.
