Hey guys,

Ive got about 150 to spend on a new edc. Im quite torn though. i cant decide between a sage 1 for about $80, a sage 2 for $140, a sog tomcat for $135, or a manix 2 cts xhp for $125.

I edc a delica right now but only because when im on campus i have to carry something that isnt intimidating. I dont really like it and am looking for a bigger knife to carry when im not on campus.

The tomcat and manix would be great for a heavier knife and if it comes down to it i will likely buy the tomcat.

But the spyderco sage's are just too beautiful. im so torn. on the downside they are a bit small but almost all my knives are typical black g-10 and they are a wonderful change up.

I want something i will really enjoy but will also suit my needs. any suggestions? and how is the lockup on the sage's? im not a big fan of liner locks because i can usually collapse them with a strong squeeze.

Thanks.

Thanks for the advice. I looked at the para 2 but it just didnt click for me. not too sure exactly what i didnt like about it. And ive been looking at the 710. almost bought one but felt it looked too much like all my other knives. I want something that is beautiful and possibly with some color. seems like all my knives are black these days.

Gotcha. How 'bout the D2 foliage green para, for a little spice? Of the knives you mention, I'd go with the Manix. But that wouldn't be my first choice. Have fun shopping around!

Try a Hogue EX01 with Green G-Mascus handles. I received a 3.5" one yesterday and liked it so much I ordered a pair of 4" models today.

Yeah Im beginning to think i may go with the manix. I was going to buy some red/ black scales for one but they ended up going for like 110 on ebay. a tomcat might not be too pocketable. But i do love the arc lock. It provides a lot of entertainment when board :D

Do it!

I know people probably get tired of hearing me say it but the Sage1 is hard to beat. I have the Sage2 which is awesome as well but the Carbon fiber on the 1 is amazing, the ergos better being the slightest bit wider it also stays in the pocket better than the 2 due to the texture. I find the Sage1 lock easier to disengage than the 2 also but that may just be my technique.

I handled a sage one and it was to this day the most comfortable knife I've ever held. I'm very tempted but am afraid it is too small/ light. so far leaning towards the foilage green manix. keep the suggestions coming guys!

Revdevil your spydie collection is not even remotely fair.

Thanks. Spyderco does make some of the best cutting tools on the planet for sure.
This is a portion of my collection about 30%, it's gotten a lot bigger now.

Sage 2. Go for it. Perfect knife.

Or any Spyderco for that matter. But the Sage 2 is on my list and for no short amount of reasons. It's truly a Spyderbenza. With more style in my opinion and a far more reasonable price.

How about a Spyderco Gayle Bradley or ZT 0350CB?

I might suggest a ZT 0301, but that seems a bit outside your budget.

If you don't think the Sage1 is strong enough, the Gayle Bradley may be in your price range. I can assure you the Sages are sturdy knives though, just thin tips so no prying please. If you can find the Sage1 for $80 just buy it. They're worth twice that IMO.
