Help picking knife for girlfriend

Well I let my girlfriends (Yes there have ben a few...) pick their own knifves from a short list I preselected with photos and or handling them in a store.

My wife currently has a red Kershaw RAM... And loves it... One can use the flipper or open it manually, its tough and reliable and won't get lost in her purse. Good stainless steel, superb warantee. Whats not to love... Oh and it was $55 from Kershawguy.

Hey guys,

I have decided that it is time for my girlfriend to start carrying a knife. I've been looking around, but I haven't found anything that fits all of the needs that I think she might have.

  • Must be simple, I'm thinking a slip joint. No need for multiple blades- one good one would be plenty.
  • Preferably stainless. She has never carried a knife before, and I don't want her to worry about rusting
  • It has to be something that looks nice to her. Her favorite color is red, and I think she would be really into a bone or wood handle.
  • Blade length has to be shorter than 3" and fairly slim due to Washington, DC length restrictions.
  • My budget is fifty dollars
  • Made in the USA is preferable, but not mandatory

I have been looking at some Case knives, which I own and love, but I haven't seen something that I feel is perfect. Any suggestions?!

Good man! However... My girlfriend expressed some interest in a couple of my knives, and I gave her the closest things I could find.
She is now the proud owner of a Mil-Tac MTF-1 and a CRKT Sting. The Mil-Tac is a 4" tanto-bladed linerlock with a safety made by Fox Knives.
The Sting is pretty well self explanatory. She had no interest whatsoever in slipjoints or anything smaller than a 3.5" blade... Have I mentioned how
much I love my girlfriend?

I gave her both knives in the first month or so of our relationship. I've since added a Remington 870, Mossberg 100 ATR, Smith & Wesson Bodyguard, Ruger LC9, and a Ruger P345....

Spyderco Dragonfly.
Or the Ladybug. I think she would like the Ladybug.

The Spyderco UKPK has an option for Maroon handles, it doesn't lock, and it's not bulky. Very Light weight and pretty much disappears in the pocket. With the low ride clip people probably won't even know she has it.

Spydero Byrd Crow or Raven in Pink G-10.

I got my girlfriend one of these, and she really loves it, and told me how she uses it all the time and feels 'naked' without it!

Benchmade knives are always good starters. Plus she could engrave the blade with anything she wants.

My girlfriend started on a purple delica and loved it, but recently she took a liking to my ppt and it kicked the delica out of her pocket. Both good knives.

Problem #1.....

Just like choosing a firearm for someone - if she doesn't choose it, it's doubtful that she'll carry it.

Does she even want to carry a knife?

+1

If she doesn't want it, she won't carry it. I'd get her opinion and stick to that.

I'm wary of knives without locks, particularly as gifts. People don't always use a knife in the "right" way, myself included. If I could have only one knife it would definitely have a lock on it. I sliced off the very tip of my thumb once with a slip joint, and that really sucked. My roommates girlfriend has been pestering him for a rainbow leek, that might be a good choice. Something a little more traditional and legal might be a case mini copperlock. Classic design, suited for smaller hands, great variety of handle colors. Might be a bit over budget but not by too much. Case's stainless blades are very stainless as well: one of my two case knives spent a week underwater and was none the worse for wear. My brother gave me the one that went under water, and I loved it immediately. Great looking, quality blade.

Another vote for the UKPK. Go ahead and buy two because you will want one for yourself as well.

From your last post, I now have a better idea of what might be some good options.

If you both like the AG Russell Ultimate Pen knife you should also check out their Curved Regular Jack. It's available with a spear point or a Wharncliffe (curved spine with straight edge) with a smooth white bone handle that she will probably like, at just $10 over your limit. It's a slip joint, made in Japan, and also available with jigged bone scales (in case you want the same pattern for yourself, but with slightly different treatment).

You can also check out the Kershaw Indian Ford with Mother of Pearl inlay (also available with carbon fiber inlay). It's a traditional lockback that's well within your price limit. Even more affordable models can be found in their Officer Ranch series. Try to check them out as well, specially the Whiskey Gap model, available with a sandalwood inlay handle, and 2-3/8 clip point blade. The name of this series has an interesting origin, which is always a plus when choosing your carrying knife.

Good luck and good "hunting".
