Help picking my 1st Barkie

I just ordered one of their products and it will be my first Bark River. It's the new Scagel hunter from KSF.

Wildmike... you are going to LOVE your Scagel hunter. I recently got the style T handled hunter, and I think I have to put it at the top of my collection. Easily bests some pretty good customs I have.

What handle style did you get? Pics when she arrives!

Got the D handle with the leather washers and the black paper micarta spacers. Lovely knife!!

Now I can see what everyone has been saying about BRKT's edges! They do convex right. Mine came exceptionaly sharp to most folks....only took about 15 minutes on a .25 micron loade diamond strop to get it just where i like em.

Now I'm thinking of picking up either a necker II and scales, or an STS3.

You're in luck, unfortunately it seems they are drifting more and more towards those stainless steels. I'd buy a few of their designs in a heartbeat if they came in a decent high carbon, particularly the Loveless Drop Point Hunter.

Is A2 not considered a high carbon steel? I know it rusts like crazy, that would lead me to believe it is.

As far as a first barkie. I really like the look and feel of the fox river. The gunnie is a little bigger than you want but is is available in stainless.

 to the Little DPH. It's 154CM which I really like and it's a great size. I've started EDCing mine for general work stuff. It carries very well in either Bushcrafter sheath or their modern classic sheath and it's much easier than a folder to get to, use, and put away.

I love my DPH but I wouldn't say that the sheath is easy to use. Honestly, the sheath holds the knife TOO well! I struggle at times with getting it out with one hand. Maybe it will loosen up over time?

I'm not complaining, really. I love the knife and think that a leather sheath is beautiful. It's just a comment....

The Bushcrafter D sheath is a perfect fit. Not too tight or too loose. The modern classic is another story. It's very snug to start with, but mine formed itself nicely after a few days use and the knife is easy to get in and out now.

I always flex and twist a new sheath quite a bit to "break' it when I get it, so that may have helped.

. . . i'm goin for the Smoke Jumper with either a Tiger Stripe handle (if there are any ANYWHERE) or a red/black handle.

Looks like DavesKnifeWorld has one:

That guy Dave, at Dave's Knife World, loves his Barkies!

"Hey Dave, how much for that Smoke Jumper?"
"Oh. About twice what everybody else sells 'em for. Maybe a tad less."

"How come so much?"
"Because I love my Barkies!"
