Hi,

Haven't been around for a while, but, am getting back into sharp and pointy things.

The worst thing happened to me today...I was opening a box that contained 4 gallon cans of paint with my MT New UDT, or whatever you call the regular small one, and, the TIP cracked off about 1/16 or so of an inch!!!!

I have no idea how to fix this. The only sharpening I know how to do is with my Spyderco Triangle Sharpmaker. I have NO idea how to reprofile a blade, nor do I have the tools to do so.

What should I do? If this was just a regular cheap knife, I wouldn't really be bothered, although I would still be mad, but, my Microtechs cost a lot and I like them very much.

Can you guys tell me how to have this blade fixed and in tip (no pun intended) top shape again????

Thanks,

Lundo

well, what i can say is

HAHAHAHHAHAHHAAHHAAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAAA!!!!

ok seriously now, maybe you can send it to some customizerr to getr it reprofiled.

DO IT BY HAND (ooh me, im sorry to break the tension) go buy some double cut mill files, a bastard file and reshape that bastard blade

then sand it so its nice and pretty, and refinish its ass.

Try talking to the guys at Microtech. I’m not sure if they offer that service. Who knows? They may even fix it for free.

Poor boy, I have to go with Ookpik, or you could just take it to Ashes store since your in PA. (that might help with possible legal issues)

You can fix minor chips with the Sharpmaker. Just use the flats and keep sharpening, making sure that you're really working that tip area. You can try a combination of sharpening the edge and filing away the top of the blade a bit, to make the top and bottom meet at a point again.

Where would Ashes store be located, and who is Ashe?

Can someone give me info? I would hate to destroy this blade myself.

Thanks,

Lundo

I have used the sharpmaker to re-tip my Delica. It won't be pretty, but with patience you can make a new tip. It will actually be stronger than the original. You just have to cut the angle off from the spine towards the blade. If you try and keep the angle of the spine the same, they will never meet.

you can either send it back to the factory, or take it over to any knifemaker and he can fix it in about 2 min.

I like the idea of sending it back to the factory. Can someone tell me, that knows, how you go about doing this? I don't think I ever mailed in my warranty card, though I am the origional owner.

What would they charge to fix it and send it back?

Oh, another question:

I have been advised to use RemOil and Canned Air to clean and lube my autos. I have never heard of remoil, and don't know where to get it, or canned air for that matter. And, what would be the procedure for keeping your knife in shape using these products.

I have been using tufglide on my autos, and I thought it was working, but, my MT LCC started to fail to open, and only opened half way. I thought it was broken. I sent it back to the guy I bought it from, so he could send it to MT for warranty repair. He said that all he did is use canned air and remoil to clean and lube it, and it is as good as new, and shipped it back to me.

Any and all advice welcome.

Ciao...

Lundo

Here is a link to the Microtech site. Click on “Contact Information”. You could phone them and explain your problem.

Canned Air: Buy that at a camera shop. Looks like a small can of WD-40 but just blows air. Used for blowing dust off cameras (and knives). Also good for drying a wet folding knife.

Rem Oil: Buy that at a gun store. Distributed by Remington. Probably made by Dupont. A light Teflon oil for guns (and knives).

I don’t have any auto knives (Canada). I imagine you would blow the dust out of the knife with the canned air. You would lubricate the knife with the Rem Oil. I’m not sure what parts to oil other than the pivot. Use the oil sparingly. Don’t oil the liner lock surfaces. Maybe someone else can give you more complete advice. Good Luck!
