Help. Please explain the "push cut"

I see you all saying to do it after you've sharpened up, but could you explain? Is it as simple as pushing the edge of the knife against a newspaper/paper and seeing if it cuts?

yeah, just push straight down instead of slicing

Yep, the further from your grip on the paper, the sharper the edge.
I can usually sharpen my folders to push cut printer paper about an inch from the grip. That's no biggy on this forum.
