Yup...probably been asked I guess  But I tried google chrome, and it sucked big-time. Is firefox 3.5 the way to go ? I am having slow problems browsing, and pics load slow for me. Thanks for any help.

Pete

I switched to Firefox 3.6 from IE7. I'll tell ya right now I won't use IE again. I've always heard from people to switch to Firefox and never really paid attention to them, I wish I did earlier.

1. go to www.filehippo.com and download a program called ccleaner. it will likely be on the right for most downloaded. install it (uncheck to install the toolbar, because you probably have too many of these already), run it, hit analyze, then run cleaner. it will delete all the internet junk on your computer. cookies, temp files, etc.

2. go to www.superantispyware.com download the free version of this program. install it, run it, let it update and scan, and do what i wants.

3. use whatever browser you want. these two steps will definitely help. personally, i use chrome or firefox if i dont need to run any active x stuff, which is ie only.

IE8 is the best i have come across i switched from firefox 3.5
IE7 has major problems but IE8 is awesome!

I got superantispyware already and it's great. I think I might try firefox 3.5. If it sucks too , I could always un-install it , right ?

Josh... whats active x stuff ?? ( sorry, I'm a newb since last year)

Yes, you can uninstall it if you don't like it. I've been running Firefox since it first came out and I'll never go back to IE again. There's no comparison between the two for me, FF is much faster.

Another option you might try is Opera. It's been around a long time even though it's not well known and it's pretty good IMO...again you can always uninstall if you don't like it.

My personal ratings, on my machine with my connection (which may not mean anything compared to your machine and connection) on a 1-10 scale:

Firefox - 9.5
Opera - 9.0
Chrome - 6
IE - 5

I keep IE installed for a few applications at work that require it, but for my own personal use, it's Firefox all the way. Easy, fast, safer.....I had it installed on an older machine 6 or 7 years ago, but there were a few features of IE that I missed, so I switched back to IE.

I'd almost completely forgotten about it until I started getting really frustrated with IE7 and went back to Firefox about a year ago. I couldn't be happier.

Opera 10 is out now in beta and it is a pretty nice browser. Also has email and IM in the same application. Seems to be very fast.

I am a laptop user and switched from IE to Firefox last year. Firefox was a big improvement then. Currently I am using version 3.6.

For keeping my laptop clean (well, I hope it is clean), I use a number of free applications:
- CCleaner, removes temporary (internet) files, cookies, invalid registry entries, etc.
- Avira AntiVir is my anti virus tool
- Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware checks for and removes malware
- Eusing Free Registry Cleaner cleans up the registry
- ATF-Cleaner, also removes temporary files
- Spybot checks for and removes spyware

I perform scans once a week and run CCleaner, ATF-Cleaner and Eusing each day before shutting down the laptop. It takes just a few of minutes.

Defragmenting the hard disc regularly also helps. I am currently using the free program Defraggler for that, which is from the same company that made CCleaner.

I've use Firefox for a number of years now, and really like it.

I recently started using the Greasemonkey addon, which gives a lot more versatility to how your web pages look.

Use what you like to use , try them all until you find the best one that suits you and your needs.

I use IE 7 and 8 , and sometimes Firefox.

I just dont like Firefox , been trying to like it for years now... I tried Opera , same thing , mehh , blahhh... I always go back to IE.

A cuople of my buddies are always harping on me to use Firefox , virus this and virus that they say , if you have a good , up to date anti-virus prog , and I stress good as opposed to something like AVG free , your pretty good to go , back that up with PeerGuardian and TeaTimer and my viruses are non existent , spyware is at a minimum , all this while using my beloved IE.

Never once had a problem with IE other than the occasional crash but that is usually Java , Flash , etc related.

+1 for firefox. I ignore anything activeX and my life is not lesser for it. the problem that I have with IE is that there are so many holes that the average user will be vulnerable. its more to do with microsoft's business practices than anything else.

Thanks for all the great replies fellas  Glad I could ask for the advice. I think I will try firefox and see how it goes.

I have been using Avant brouser for 3 years, and its working for me. I am not much of a computer guru, so as long as it works I am fine with it.
