Help.....RC tester kicking my butt!

OKay - I had better results last night.
There are so many variables that can alter the test results I think that I have found it is best to do 4 readings and average them.

I would say that my results are 75% within 1 to 1.5 points of what my test samples show. 25% are off but that could also be the different steel makup.

I think I am happy with the tester but I would like to get nice test blocks to calibrate it by.

What do you think about the results above?

I added machine oil to the piston, used the movable weight inside to attempt to calibrate the pressure the machine puts on the test piece. All in all I was a happy boy last night.

THanks a trillion for the phone call last night Kevin

I would imagine the longer you use it, the better and more consistant results you will get.

Might want to cut a hole in the floor of your shed and form a concrete stand for it. :)

I thought about that too :D I also noticed you can get a "feel" for when the test is done right. I'll need to get a gppd test block but this will get me in the ballpark for now I hope

Brian,

Sounds like you have it figured out, and your numbers are good. Averaging the numbers is best. The penetrater may or may not be on a carbite in the blade steel and a difference will occure.
Just keep the unit clean and dust free. I have placed a plastic cover bag over my tester and then a plexyglass box over the plastic bag and tester to protect it from dusk and anything which might hit it.

I think I'll get a sheet to keep over it untill I find something better.
I may have to make a plastic cover for it and my CD player.
