This is my work knife and I hate the grip design. "Work" means I split fat wood into pack able pieces for fire starting and cut cotton string, that's about it... But regardless the grip digs into my hand and needs reshaped. One thing for sure, the top back is getting rounded off. Do you have any ideas to shape it? I was thinking maybe a pinky area or something.

I would use it and note any specific areas with pressure points that are bothersome for you and start there. You can always take more off, but.... You know the rest. Its a saying for a reason;)

Judging from your pics I think most of your issues are a result of having too short a handle. Might be something to consider.

Yes it's not long enough but for most it's a large handle. My hands are just too big for most knifes. I can't hardly fit them in most XL gloves on the market either.

I agree that the handle looks too short. The corners could use some rounding, as well.

I just hate to part with my favorite blade though. That slight recurve is a big plus for my use.

If you have monster paws and need a lot of leverage you'do best with a longer handle. If you don't want to undertake that project then I would first file/sand the butt area that sits in your palm, to remove the hot spot, then see how that does for you. Then if you are still having pinkie issues you could try reducing the grip width there and rounding the scales a bit, but I wouldn't go for a bird's-beak design if the handle is alreadt short for you.

If you really screw up, you can always put a different handle on it- so don't be afraid.

I'd take a file to the top and bottom corners and round them off.

I'd also try and find a round diamond file and get that choil more rounded out vs a sharp corner.

rip your paper into strips and "shoeshine" sawing will also round things off.

Have you considered turning it into a partial tang? You'd be able to keep the blade and most of the handle, but extend it as big as you want. Just something to consider.

Just round over the square-ish corners and taper the butt end on the bottom enough that your pinky finger can sit there......it's long enough, but your pinky is trying to fall off the back end. Shape the butt more like this one.

Darcy:)

I'm glad I asked. I was ready to start grinding away. So far I filed a bit off the back as to make it slightly more round and sanded the sides down. It didn't take much and it already feels much better. I'll snap a shot when done. Thanks for all of the input.

the front and back should be thinner than the center so to create a small palm swell . also the top of the handle should be fatter than the bottom of the handle and all should be smooth and slightly rounded , no sharp or square edges .
