Help selecting belts for slower belt speeds.

Hello everyone, I did a search for this, and found some comparisbetween belts, and ways to refresic with a carbide bit. My biggest question however is regarding the best belt belt for my speed. My NWGS is currently running at about 2800 sfpm which I know is on the slower end. I keep hearing that ceramics need to be run at high speeds and high pressure, and worry I may not be running fast enough to actually benefit from them. I have done some hogging with zircs and didn't really seem to have trouble with dulling or glazing as much when using less pressure. I am wondering if there are certain ceramics that are better for my grinding style since I have heard the cubitrons may react better to slower speeds than the blaze belts. At these speeds is my best option just to stick with zircs? Currently I have been grinding 1084, W2, and just started on some CPM154, and 154CM. Thanks a lot everyone.

Try a few different belts and see how they work for your grinding style. We all have our opinions but the proof comes at the grinder.

Thanks for the info guys. Hopefully I can make an order in the next day or so, that way I will have fresh belts when my bubble jig shows up. Just ordered one today, thanks Fred. I have blazes right now but may try some of the lower grits again now that I have started using stainless. Will make sure I get some 984 cubit tons as well. If I order from pops I may get some of his super cheap AO belts too just for handle shaping on wood and other soft stuff.

The fine grit belts can last for years in some cases; its the 36's and 40's that go fast. Check out the Gator belts in 120 220 for handles. They have great flexibility and last and last.

The Cheap Zirc. belts pops sells are ok for wood but that is it. I get atleast five times the amount profiling with the even the yellow 3M 974? belts.. Also if you need your belts quickliy let them know as Pop's has been really slow shipping latly.

Really appreciate the info Brett. I may just order from usaknifemaker and get a variety to test them myself. Also I am getting in on a demo of some new ceramics from Klingspor so I will see how those work out as well.
