I'm a USA citizen and I live in New York. Looking to purchase a Strider SNG from another member here, who lives in Canada. Is there any chance that the knife will get confiscated by US Customs? Since it is not an auto or an assisted opener, my understanding is that it should be okay. Anyone have experience or insight on this? I tried to research it but there's not much out there. Again, this is for a knife to be shipped from Canada to the USA. Thanks for any help!

I've had no issues shipping either into or from Canade so far, except for the amount of time it takes in many cases. Like you said, it shouldn't run into any issues in customs, and all of the knives I have had go throught customs before have been somewhat similar to the SNG, so I don't see any reason it should be any different.

im from canada and have shipped atleast a hundred or more knives with never ONCE a problem with the u.s customs. and ive shipped knives, swords and all kindsa crazy stuff!!!

I will admit though ive had a few times that its sat in u.s customs for like 4 days!!!! but im sure there were reasons like possible hoildays and whatnot. either way I have a %100 delivery rate.

plus really helps to pay a lil more for better shipping! more it a lil faster through

I wouldn't use UPS, their 'brokerage fees' are ridiculous. Go with Canada Post/USPS. I usually use Xpresspost when I ship to the states and have had great success. Might cost a bit more but so far, nothing has taken over 5 business days (during non-peak times of course) to get to the destination, even all the way down to Miami etc.

You will more than likely be just fine having it shipped from Canada to US. Just have them ship it with tracking etc. to cover everyone's butts

Canada Post has worked when I ordered from W&W, US Customs won't likely be messing with the packages, it's mainly the other way around.

Do you typically use Canada Post/USPS or do you use a service like UPS?

I always use canadapost because it get handed to usps on the states side, in which case tracking number usually will work with both canadapost and usps.

just like go_DWI said " dont use ups!" they are very ridiculous with fees.

and yes always make sure theres tracking!!!

Yep, spot on! We're a little more 'uptight', with 'we' being the CBSA. They're either super fast or super slow. Never had middle ground when bringing stuff in with customs (in my experience). Sometimes tracking shows it thru in an hour, other times it's days.

living in new york will also depend on time for shipping to the u.s because Im in Ontario ive had things reach new york in 3 days from dropping it off at canadapost (of course it was before there cut off time)

so if said knife was shipped from BC area or so, that could delay a few days

Shipping from BC will have the knife leave Canada from the Richmond Sorting Facility.

In Eastern Canada, the closer you live to the Mississauga Facility, the faster it leaves Canada. I believe there is another in St. Laurent, Quebec.

Those are the 3 I'm aware of. I currently have something sitting in St. Laurent that's coming up from Massachusetts

I have recently bought two knives from members in Canada and traded one knife I sent there from the U.S. There weren't any problems with my shipping experience or with Customs. Hope this helps you. Good luck!

Same here I have received two knives the in the past week and had no problems at all. Both big "tactical" style knives. I wouldn't worry at all.

Canada post only insures up to $1K eh so I use UPS for over $1K shipping. I ship my stuff fully insured that's why and if I'm using UPS people in USA are aware they might be fees and so from UPS when it gets there. I just ship a $3K k I've to USA fully insured UPS Express so I will post back to this thread to comment on my experience.

I've used Canada Post/USPS for years and not had a problem.

-Bomb-proof packaging
-Nothing illegal
-Full and correct declaration info
-Express Post or Expedited Parcel
-Fully insured.

It'll get there.
