Alright guys so here's the deal.

I had a guy approach me about a couple of knives I have up for trade (on Instagram).

He offered me a ZT 0808 for my Spyderco Manix LW and Benchmade 707 sequel. I've wanted an 0808 for a while so I'm pretty interested. He thought that it wouldn't be equal and asked me to add $60 to make it even. I'm not really looking to add that much cash right now so I declined, however he replied saying; "Well I don't ever use these and if u r a true collector then ig I could trade the 808 for the m2 if thats ok for u" - His exact words. I'm assuming "m2" means my 2 knives. He hasn't given me any info on the 0808, just one pic.

I'm really just looking for advice from anyone who has traded on Instagram. This guy has 5 posts 2 followers and is following 6. He claims that the account was created for trading knives/edc tools. Would you guys go through with the trade? The fact that he let go of $60 so quickly kinda makes me nervous. You guys think he could be a scammer? His instagram name is fast_flipper.v2 if any of you wanna check him out.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'd have a much better feel for the trade if he'd spell the words out so I'd know what he's saying. As it's written I'm just not sure what he's saying.

I don't like people that you have to guess wtf they mean. Instagram and trading is risky business

I would have assumed that "the m2" meant the manix 2....so he did not let go of $60, as you put it, he took a knife out of the offer. Ultimately the "should I trade" question always comes down to two things: 1) do you want what is offered, and 2) are you happy with the deal. If the answer to either is no, then don't do it. I've done unequal trades from both directions (receiving, or sending, the more expensive knife), and have never felt I got a raw deal afterwards because my answers to both questions were yes.

I just reread the original post, and see that the other party is offering the 0808, so taking the just the manix 2 doesn't make sense when he wanted funds added when there were two knives on the table. Have him explain what he's offering, and be careful. Don't even think about trading without good, clear pictures of the offered item.

Red alert, red alert....Danger Will Robinson, danger!!! I would stay away from trades on IG if possible...use the forums (not foolproof of course but waaaaaaaaaay better than IG).

Thanks a lot guys. I've really been wanting an 0808, but I just don't feel good about this. Looks like I'll probably pass on this trade.

I would pass, just by you saying that he hasnt had much activity on IG would raise a red flag for me.

I just looked at the opening post again..."the m2" is probably them 2; and I wouldn't deal with him simply because I detest text shortcuts

If you have to ask random strangers whether you should trade with a complete stranger that you already have concerns about ....

I think you already have your answer!

Absolutely NOT!!
Trades anywhere are risky business to start with. With a person you cannot research??? NO!!

Definitely do not make a trade anywhere you cannot have some type of support if issues arise. Why not trade them here.
You could always post a WTB thread for a 0808 with trade options or what your budget is. You never know until you ask.

Agreed
A great deal of folks believe in FB and IG knife groups
That is fine and well and to each his own.

This place has served me well for 14 years of great trades-sales and
meeting and becoming good friends with many in here that would
have your back if anything went sideways..

When I trade I set up "MY RULES-TERMS"
If the person in here doesnt like my terms
Keep walking..I dont hesitate to say NO
I offer my references in BF and offer my WORD
which I feel I have earned.

Going in a knife trade is often unsettling..Although when I trade in here w
long time buddies..I dont hesitate to send a $100-$500-$1000 knife immediately
upon sealing the deal..Well because we have a group of Moderators and other
GOOD folks watching each others back..
Its about your comfort leveling and building a Reputation that people
look at and believe in...

Try to stick to what feels right..and of course follow your gutt

I just read the entry and no comments. My experience with Fast Flipper on IG.
He made an offer of a ZT 0777 for 5 of my disco Spyderco. He wanted me to ship a week earlier than he could, because of "work". He sent me a photo of a tool box full of knives as some type of proof he was legit. My inquiry of the facet he obtained such a collection went unanswered multiple times. Not a Forum member, did no BST on FB, nothing. He did provide me with an address, an address to nowhere,Tennessee.
The interaction went on for about two days, I felt early he was a scam based on the things you mentioned.. No posts, no followers, and so forth. I consciously started switching knives from our original asgreement, not once did it bother him.
Icing on the cake was he was generously sending me a ZT 0770 for free.
IG sucks for knives. No accountability, no protection, and certainly operates in a dark anonymity.
