I am looking to buy Busse knife and choosing from: Jack Hammer Special Edition 2008, Hell Razor, Busse Ash1 Combat modified by Reese Weiland or Tank buster. The purpose of this knife is 60% outdoor/survival companion, 40% tactical/fighting knife. If you have or had experience with these models I would appreciate if you share your opinion with me, which one is better for my needs. Or you can give me other models to consider.:rolleyes:

I don't own any of the ones you've listed, but the Jack Hammer might be a nice pick. The "60% outdoor/survival companion" is the problem. Do you need a big chopper or a proper bushcraft knife?

I have a BWM that is my camping tool but for hiking I have a Spyderco Bushcraft. Both "outdoor/survival" knifes, but worlds apart. I'm actually thinking about finding an HG55 and having the grind modified for better cutting, and turning it into a type of bushcraft knife. It's a good looking fighter so it fits that category too.

Chris.

Hey lucky; I agree with CPC; however I can tell you that I use my ASH-1 skinny for pretty much everything (outdoor/survival/camping/hiking etc) and I am very happy with it.

The ASH-1 Combat Grade is a very thick blade and will be very heavy for it's size but is also the best chopper followed by the Hell Razor's longer thinner blade or Tank Buster's shorter thick blade. The Jack Hammer shorter AND thinner blade is not much of a chopper and a lot more of a fighter than a woods blade, but it will serve pretty well for light bushcraft chores. Out of your list, I too would go with the Hell Razor.

Other good options to consider in this category are a SAR 6, FSH, DSF, Skinny ASH, NMFSNO or SFNO.

Considering your needs I would choose a DSSF knife. Very versatile blade, and out of the ones mentioned by you best combination of a knife that can be used both for self defence and for general outdoor activities. It's long, well balanced (a bit too blade heavy for a fighter but not as blade heavy as the knives you consider) yet quite light (for a busse knife;)), which is good both for fighting and hiking. It cuts well, and choppes suprisingly well too and it has a nice and pointy tip.

I would say look for a DSF, they are very reasonably priced. It is one of my most used blades and is going to be accompanying me on my hikes this summer.

At first I wasnt as attracted to it as other Busses but after using it I must say it is one of my favorites.

Can you give me an idea, what is the smartest chose for my needs from these models moneywise? My budget is $300 +/- $50. Are there any other models better than mentioned I can get for my budget? Thanks

NMSFNO!!

Usually $327

Or, B11 maybe, usually $297 standard grind

Don't overlook the SarSquatch. It is a great chopper for it's size. Great overall camp knife, Would work for a combat knife as well, but it might be a bit long for some units (overall length limits etc).

It is not too heavy, still plenty tough.

The Ash1 CG is a great knife. Not a "slicer" but if you put a good convex edge on it, it will do pretty much everything. Heavier for sure.

The Skinny Ash1 will be lighter, and a better slicer, but still tough.

The handles on the Ash1 are very secure feeling in my hands. Great combat knife.

Of the ones you listed, the only one I don't have, is the Tank Buster. I would lean more toward the Hell Razor. However, I also, think a better choice would be a NMSFNO. I would then pick up one of the smaller 3"-4" Busses. My favorite small Busse is the BAD.

Yeah, I haven't seen an NMSFNO for cost in a long time. Other than a show that is.

I would go for a tankbuster for size vs weight ratio, and most applications you mentioned
here are some fine examples

From your list:

1st choice - Hell Razor
2nd choice - Tank Buster (which you can get in a variety of configurations).

Here are some photos so you can get an idea of size

For what you want the DSSF or Hell Razor will work fine.

Try to HOLD the model you get--before you get one.

As in do NOT get a knife based on a photo --but try and hold that model first
