Hi guys! As you know the Justice minister proposed a new law in Denmark.
This law propose to prohibite total carry of "all sharp and pointed objects on the street".
That mean a SAK will even be prohibited to carry now!

We have 14 days to react! Me and some friends decided to write to both the justice ministery and the Danish parlements! PLEASE help us!!! If you guys send a letter to them explaining that prohibit knives will not stop criminality to carry weapons we can maybe win this battle!
The new law propose that first time you get busted with a one hand opening knife (spyderco alike) you have to pay a ticket, second time you go in jail!!!! :barf:
Now for most of criminals the choice will be:"no difference in penality between a knife and a gun, I carry a gun".

Handwritten is better anyway. Most government and big business offices assume massive e-mail is just a coordinated campaign and counts as one, not many responses. A handwritten letter requires individual attention, not just a mouse-click on a prepared statement.
 
Keep the letters positive and polite. Do not denigrate the intelligence or good will of the people you are trying to convince. Anybody can make a mistake. We are trying to help friends avoid this one.

I completely agree with you and should have writed it in my comments!
Actualy the point in writing is not to denigrate them, we have to write and show them that this is not the knives who are comiting crimes but only criminals! And show them than 80% of knives owner are normal citizen who have a normal hobby!
The danish statistics show than the first 6 months of 2003, 750 case where knives have been involved. This 750 crimes include all from verbal agression with a knife in hand, robery with knives to direct attacks.
From this 750 cases, 45% of the situations were hapening at home with kitchens knives! So make your mind!
I don't understand that 109 persons of this forum have been reading this thread and ONLY 3 have answered :grumpy:

From your last reply to one of my postings, you said you were a COP.
Does that mean you wont be able to carry on duty? And no matter what, if this foolish law passes, will you arrest/ticket or otherwise confiscate others property?
 
Postage from the US to Denmark is $.80 for Air Mail.

Will letters from US citizens help your cause? I might think it could make it worse as many people in Europe view us Americans as cowboys with our guns and knives, shooting and kill each other. :) Getting letters from us might make them want to pass the law even more. :) Hope those who send letters do a good job explaining why this law wouldn't be a good idea.
 
I am going to keep my letter nice and short, basically stating that the bad guys will use whatever the hell they want, despite a ban on whatever they are going to use. I will then also state how the law is unfair to the majority of knife users, who are responsible people etc.
 
Hi Tzvi! well actualy I'm cop in France!:D and in france "normaly" knives with a locking système are prohibited. I can assure you that I've never confiscated a knife on a person who wasn't comiting a crime! Generally I give a comentar saying "keep it in your pocket I never saw it, and have a good day". As long as the person have a peacefull attitude!
My view of being a cop is to protect people and their right to walk safely on the street with their family.You know...to protect and to serve...;)
WadeF: actualy Danish people have a very positive view of American people! They even suport american troops in Iraq! I think the question is not where the letter come from but what people say in this letters!If their content is well founded it might help.
I did the same by suporting the NRA when the "ban" laws came in USA!:D
