I got a new 21, I decided to take it apart and when I put it back together the blade rubs, has play and is stiff! Help me!! What did i do wrong?? I think on of the screws may be stripped as well....does crk ship out parts?

i managed to get it back apart by tapping the allen key into the pivot screw a bit (that was the one that may have been stripped) now I have it completely disassembled in front of me, is there a specific way to assemble these? do I have to use crk grease? the only lube i have is tuf glide and heavy duty bearing grease

Jdavis does a great video. Lengthy but you will learn. What I did my first time was followed through in real time as he does it in the video, rewinding if needed.

Good luck and enjoy..

Pictures would help a lot:) if you send all the pieces back to CRK they will put it back together. And yes, they do ship out parts I have stripped screws before.

Step away if you need to. The first few times can be white knucklers, especially if something has gone wrong. Follow the steps above, make sure not to pinch a washer, tighten everything down, and flick the blade open to reset the lock.

Let us know how it turns out.

thank you for all the replies, I did what was instructed in that link except used tuf glide and now it is perfectly centred, locks up solid, and is smooth. The action however still feels a bit sluggish...mabye it just needs to be worked in a bit. Do you think some compressed air would help it? It may also be that I didn't use the crk grease, I need to get me some of that.

there are alternatives to CRK grease, FInish Line Fluorinated grease for example. FYI I once ran the knife bone dry for the hell of it, the difference is barley noticeable.

I found after taking the knife apart is to open and close the knife a bunch of times to get the action nice and smooth once again.

ok guys, I'm at a loss. I have no idea why it is doing this but it is still being stiff, yet if i disengage the lockbar the blade will drop. Any suggestions? I dont want to send it in to crk because I heard it takes 6 months to get back, and im in Canada so shipping would be a hassle.

I just realized that if you disengage the lockbar to let the blade drop it will normally stop at about halfway...

Did you put the washers back on the correct sides? As in the side that was originally touching the blade.

That's the detent that is holding the blade. That is normal.

Is it tighter than it was when new?

The knife is supposed to be smooth, but not loose.

BTW, mine does not drop free when you lift the lockbar. That is too loose IMO and im Im pretty sure didnt come from the factory blade dropping loose.

Great advice

sounds like your washers are pinched/not aligned.
1/ disassemble it again
2/ (assuming its a right handed knife) lay it flat with the blade pointing to the left
3/ clean everything, relube
4/ assemble from bottom to top, taking note the washer's position and face, the side with the circular wear mark faces the blade
5/ assemble with the blade in the locked open position

there are various ways of doing this, of course. This works for me.
My blade is smooth but does not drop when the lock bar is disengaged.

Make sure that the washers are flipped the right way. Make sure you got your tuf glide on both sides of the washers and inside the hole for the pivot in your blade. Make sure the lock face and area on the blade that the lock engages is clean. Try using rubbing alcohol on those two areas with a q tip. When you reassemble get everything snug but not too tight and then back off your pivot screw just a touch to make sure you are not pinching your washers. When it's apart lay your washers on a flat surface and make sure that they aren't warped. Good luck!
