HELP! What just happened????????

Before I took it apart it was much looser, so that leads me to believe I did something wrong. I need to stop messing with good things...lol I think that I put the washers in correctly, both sides had scratches on it so it was hard to tell which was supposed to go on which side, but I chose the smoother looking one to face the blade. I don't think that it is supposed to be tighter than a deassisted 0350 right?

It doesn't need to be loose by any means. Just don't over tighten and pinch your washers. Did you try cleaning the lock face and the blade where the lock engages with rubbing alcohol and a qtip? I would call crk if I were you and have them talk you through it. They are very helpful and will have more answers than we will. Here's their number. 208-375-0367

Hey guys, thanks for all the replies and help. I got it back together and it is all well. Its perfect now, blade drops, smooth action, solid lockup, perfect centring, the works. Now the only thing I need to deal with is the edge, I'm having trouble getting it as sharp as my other carry knives (pm2 and bm 710 atm) on my sharp maker....have any of you heard of http://www.personaledge.com/on/accueil.php ? Im thinking of trying them out because there is one in a mall near me but Im not sure I can trust them. Has anyone here tried them? if so how were they?

To answer what you mentioned earlier in our PM, anyone that wants to sharpen your sebenza or any other high end knife with a belt grinder.....RUN. I know Chris uses a leather belt and all on a belt grinder, but other then CRK......RUN....RUN.....RUN....!!!

Be careful on who you send your Sebenza to for any reason. There are plenty of well known sharpeners and even Chris Reeve would be the best choice, you could get the spa treatment and maybe get that stripped screw replaced. You don't want to screw your knife up so don't send it out to someone that is not highly known on this forum.

As for making it sharp. Best advice is....practice practice practice.

Have a look here.....dont skip the sticky section.

or...send it to CRK.

Im glad that you got it all worked out. Im sure that was a little stressful for you. As far as sharpening goes I would highly recommend getting a Wicked Edge sharpener. It is a little pricey but well worth the investment if you are a knife person. I need my knives to be scary sharp and the W.E does that easily and quickly with consistant results. As an added bonus it is basically idiot proof (which is why I got one for myself)

Glad you got it figured out.
I had issues with disassembling mine at first and had to come ask for advice.
The way I now do it is:
Take it apart, wipe all the parts down.
Relube, though most of times lately I don't use the lube much if at all.
Put the handles back together, tighten the screws but not all the way.
Put the bushing in the blade, put the shiny part of the washers toward the blade, the large washer goes on the front of the blade and the small goes on the back.
Your pieces should stick on the blade with the lube, if not hold them in place.
Slide the blade into the handles and put the pivot pin in, it should slide in effortlessly, don't force it. If it doesn't, release the lock and it'll slide into place.
Once the Pivot Pin is through, put your pivot screw in. Tighten until the screw won't go any farther without torquing it.
Do the same with the body screws.

Your knife should be smooth, centered, and solid.

With CR knives, you just need to hit it with a hammer.

Seriously, I will wait, go find a hammer, and and anvil and smack that sucker. It will fix everything, I promise.

I don't quite get why you would disassemble a perfectly new, problem free folder?

I have folders going on 20+ years old that I have never had to take apart for any reason. Shoot, some of those have never been oiled or lubed..............ever...........

I get taking the knife apart if something is wrong, that you can easily fix.

I do have a few folders I have taken completely apart. To fix something.

just on the border of scarborough and pickering, in the rouge valley if you know where that is. My postal code is M1C 4L3

Okay not overly far from me. I could meet you somewhere in Pickering possibly if your having super troubles.

But it sounds like you got it back together alright and it seems to be back to normal. That's the main thing.
Just make sure to put the handle back together completely first then slide the blade with bushings and washers in to the handle.

I'd have to agree with not letting just anyone sharpen your Sebenza. Best bet is to lean how to maintain it yourself.
If the sharpmaker isn't getting your Sebenza sharp that means the bevel on your Seb is greater then the 40 degrees inclusive that the sharpmaker does. So what you need to do is reprofile the bevel on the Seb a little under 40 degrees (like 15 degrees) so that the sharpmaker will work.

I don't know what sharpening equipment you have. But if you only have the sharpmaker you can wrap the stones with sand paper (say 220 grit) and reprofile your seb using the 30 degree back bevel slots. That way you'll be able to get it sharp and touch it up using the the 40 degree slots.

I can get it sharp but not as much as I would like. It can take a few hairs off with some effort but it isnt hair popping or even shaving sharp, so I think it is more my skill thats holding me back. Does anyone here know a good guy in Canada I can send it to or meet up with if he is close enough? Preferably in ontario. Ive been thinking of sending it to someone like richard j or solo but I dont want to be without it for the time it takes to get to the US and back.
