Hi guys, I need some inputs I bought a knife(private sales) on another forum, I sent the guy a US Postal money order over 2 weeks ago. After he received my money order he said he been rip-off before by fake money order & he has to make sure it is real before he ship me the knife, so I figure that's reasonable another week pass & I have not receive my knife. I emailed him a few times & he always said his bank has not clear my money order but I told him it was a US postal money order he can cash it at any US post office. Finally last Sat(8-13) he said he will send it out Priority Mail on Monday & today is Wed still no knife! Guys did it sound like a rip-off? If the knife show up tomorrow(Thur) that's fine. If not what should I do legally? Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks

It only takes several days for a bank to deposit a postal money order into his account.

As far as shipping time, it depends on where he lives and where you live. Three to five days is the norm, but can take longer.

Send another e-mail asking for shipment verification.

From a legal stand-point, you can go to your nearest post office and talk to them. There will be paperwork to complete that initiates their involvement.

Great advice leatherbird. . . . . .

Thanks for the replies! Still no knife today I just emailed the guy for delivery confirmation number & verification.

Who is he.
If it was a postal M.O. there should not have been any problem at all.
If I had gotton a fake one before I would have cashed it at the PO.They can check it on the spot.BTW I was told last week at my local PO that there has been some fake postal MO going around,I was cashing one and they did check it right in front of me.

Very good point.

I have a main USPS facility and 4 satellites within 10-miles of the abode. Everytime that I've taken a money order in to cash. . . . .they check it against their hot MO list.

Hope that it works out for you, m10commander. Keep us informed.

The guy is not from this forum. That's what worry me because the money order I sent is a US postal money order but he insisted on have his bank clear it first before shipping the knife. It just doesn't make sense to me. It looks more like a stalling tactic! Well, I am not trying to jump to any conclusion.

Have some patience. If he did deposit the MO in his bank, it doesn't matter what kind of MO it was, it's that particular banks policy on how long it takes to clear. I've had it take 7 days for a postal MO to clear. At that time, I didn't know I could cash it at the PO. I recently mailed an item by Priority Mail with Delivery Confirmation and it took 2 weeks(15 days) to go from GA to SC. The post office gave me no explanation for the delay after repeated contact with them. It's possible that a package can get lost, misrouted, delayed, etc. Just be a bit more patient. It seems this guy has been keeping in touch with you so that's a good sign.

Well, that's always good to know. Like I said before I am not jumping to any conclusion. Let's hope the knife show up in a couple of days. Thanks guys

A little update, I finally got an email from the guy last Friday(8-19) he said his bank cleared my postal money order & will ship my knife out ASAP. Man, today is almost 8-24(Wed) still no knife yet & now I am pissed off because first he told me he will send it out on 8-15 it was more than a week ago. Guys, should I wait a few more days? Any good ideas? Also anyone know when should you file a mail fraud complain with USPS? Thanks

That last question would be for the USPS unless someone here has some experience with filing mail fraud issues I read some body here had more of an issue filing a claim for an insured package. I only hope you have better luck with getting your knife than if you have to file charges. Good luck.

Thanks! Man, I just want to get my knife rather than taking legal action against this guy. I just dont don't know is he too busy or just stupid I sent him a US Postal money order & told him he can cash it at any post office but he insisted on deposit my money order in his bank. Just hope my knife will show up. Is it a good idea to let him know I will take legal action if it turn sour? Thanks again!

I would say yes but then again it all depends on how much you spent with him.... as to how much legal attention you can bring..... again good luck

Hi Guys, I just found out today if you want to cancel/refund or just want to know your postal money order been cashed you have to file a form 6401 & pay $3.00 fee! Talk about sticking it to you! Man, I just hope the guy sent my knife to me otherwise file that form pay $3.00 & wait two weeks for the result then file a complain with the USPS!
