Help!! Wife stole my Delica!!

Hey everyone! I would really like some input here.

The other day, my wife surprised me by asking me if she could take my serrated Spyderco Delica to work with her. Of course, I told her that it was okay because I wanted her to understand how easy and convenient, yet practical it is to carry a knife around daily. Well, it just so happens that while she was at work, she came across a rather large piece of rope that she had to untie. She soon realized that she would not be able to untie it, so she grabbed the Delica she had clipped to her pocket and sliced the rope off effortlessly.

My problem is that she has fallen in love with my Delica, and now she wants to carry it everyday, which would not be a problem, except that it's my only serrated blade and I like to carry one plain and one serrated all of the time. She wants to have a knife that she can call her own, that she can carry with her all of the time.

She is looking for something with the following characteristics:
- It must me small (3" or less)
- It must be relatively affordable (under $60)
- It must have a clip for easy pocket/waistband carry
- She would prefer that it open easily with one hand

She knows she likes the serrated Delica, and she also likes the Spyderco Cricket, but I know there are many choices out there, and I just want to make sure that she can find something she will love to carry and use. After all, if the knife becomes too cumbersome, she won't carry it, and won't be able to enjoy it.

Please give me some suggestions as to what knives she might consider and why she might like them.

Thanks for your time, and I hope to have my Delica back very soon!

Hmmmm... Since Valentine's Day is fast approaching, I would suggest getting another Delica, in Pink, for your wife.

That should really make her day, and you can get your trusty 'ol Delica back at the same time.

My advice? Don't try to surprise her or YOU might end up carrying a pink delica! When my fiance decided that my Native was hers, we went to look for something else for her. Didn't work. The native is still hers and I'm saving for an Endura for me.

Give her the Delica! That way you can get something new for yourself and she won't complain.

It worked for me!

Dan- I considered the Pink Delica, though I think she might actually like black, just because she might not like it to be so conspicuous. Whatever it is, I'm with Gwinny in that I want her to choose whatever she likes the best because if she doesn't like it for whatever reason, she won't use it.

TAutry- Your point is very well taken, and believe me, I have considered that very seriously, however, I fear that she might get grouchy if I buy a new knife for me but she can't have one herself. I mean, here's an example... If I give her my serrated Delica, then go out and buy a brand new serrated Delica for myself to replace the one I gave her, then why don't I just buy her the new one and take back my old one? I think she would like to be able to pick out whatever she will use herself, so that it will fit her own needs and personality. If she does like the Delica though, then I would certainly give it to her and find something neat to replace it!

I am trying to convince her to get one of the new Spydie Calypso Jr's with the zytel handle and VG-10 steel, or perhaps a Benchmade Ascent 820. I want to take her to the local knife store so she can handle some of the knives herself to see how she likes the feel, carry, etc. Do you guys have any suggestions of what she might want to consider?

Thanks for the input!

I can't imagine that anybody who got so quickly attached to the Delica could fail to fall head over heels in love with the ltwt. Calypso Jr. You can't go wrong with that one, serrated or plain.

Let her keep the Delica, get yourself a William Henry, you deserve it. My wife adopted my Mini Tanto, so I know how you feel.

frag, you're on the right track with taking her to a knife shop. and if she decides to keep the delica, might i suggest the spyderco merlin/harpy. the blade looks pretty neat to my eyes, scary to others, but it is a workhorse. great blade design, for cutting string it's great. just pass the blade under the string and pull. the merlin even has the same handle as the delica, so it wouldn't be much of an adjustment. anyway you do it, good luck.

Hello Frag.

The Delica will be tough to beat in terms of utility, quality and cost. A good woman deserves a good knife. A beautiful woman deserves a beautiful knife. the Delica is good, but it isn't exactly beautiful. My recommendation: the Al Mar Falcon Ultralight. http://chaicutlery.com/almar.html has it listed at $63.

You can read a review of this excellent knife here: http://www.bladeforums.com/ubb/Forum3/HTML/000510.html

Happy hunting,

Stop when you get to bone.

Stay with the Delica, or maybe the Ltwt Calypso. Or a Native. Ummm...I'm no help. Maybe even a tricked out Delica by Frank, I forgot his last name. Let me find it...

Found it, Frank Recupero.

Some excellent suggestions. I'll go with the pink Delica, or a Dragonfly, or Calypso Jr., either lightweight or in micarta.

Stealing your Delica is one thing. When she gets around to stealing Sebenzas, it's time for an intervention or an attorney. LOL!

I got my wife both a pink Delica and cricket, sorta as a joke. I was looking at Chai Cutlery when she asked "what are you doing?" I said looking at a knife for you.
Her reply, "Ya right.

Short story; she carries the cricket all the time, sometimes with a SAK othertimes a Rescue Jr. or a ladybug. The Cricket works great at opening boxes and the color seems NOT to draw unwanted attention. The Delica gets used in the garden along with a Harpy, all three Spydie edged. I have now started her own "purple knife" collection. She still says "Yea right

along with some of the others.

Get her a new Delica to replace yours. After a while she NEEDS to go with you to pick out her own at some well stocked store.

Frag, stop taking back the knife, and you can take your Delica with your wife everywhere...

Or she will know your black folding knife is not only one but many before long. My wife surprised me to say she had been thinking I had only one though she had saw my BM975, stryker, autostryker, Mel Perdue, and Spike!

Thanks for all of the great comments everyone! She is going to the knife store with me tonight to see what she likes.

Does everyone have any more suggestions? Keep the posts coming!!

Frag,

How about the Mini-Dyad in Zytel? Actually I don't know if this is out yet. The Micarta version is out- it may be around the $60 limit you mentioned.

Great suggestion DL! I will Definately have her check it out! This also helps because she has used my Serrated Delica often but hasn't used anything plain-edged yet, so she isn't sure which blade type to choose. The Dyad is a great idea and would solve the Serrated vs. Plain edge issue for her. GREAT SUGGESTIONS EVERYONE!! THANKS, AND KEEP THEM COMING!!

You could try discipline but it didn't work for me! Am ordering grrl a Jess Horn II.

Let her keep the Delica, get yourself a new Native. ;P

If you don't wanna get her another Delica, I think the Dragonfly is a really nice piece.

Congradulations on her theft, I think your definately on the right track. Hit the local knife shop and let her handle the knives and see which blade style she likes best. This way you know she'll be completely happy with it.
