I bought this thing over a year ago and am just now getting around to installing it on my forge. I bought it off of ebay and there is no paperwork with it all.

For right now I just want to use it too monitor the temp on my forge but eventually I will use it with gas soleniods to control the temp on my forge. So for right now I need to hook up power and the thermocuple.

Does anyone have or know where to find a book on this PID, it is made by:

Versatile Control & Technologies. HK

Versatile Temperature Control Device
Model JLD612
MD I D

I see on it where to hook up the SSR ouutput and where to hook up the the - + for the thermocouple but I am not sure how to determine which is which, (- or +) on a thermocouple.

Not sure where to hook the power?

There are screws numbered 1-14 on the back, some of it I see how to do but....................I don't have a clue on how to program this thing later to do anything!

When I googled Versatile Control & Technologies. HK I got a bunch of questions on different devices made by the company and no instructions. So they must send everything out with out instructions. Anyone know anything about this model or know where I can go to find instructions on programming and wiring this thing! Help anyone !

Hey thanks Nathan, not the same model but other than that looks exactly like that, front and back so I think those instructions may work!

No problem. There are more models with various options on Auberins along with their instruction manuals, but I think that one is likely similar.

A type K thermocouple that is wired with wrong polarity will show negative values.
So, just hook it up and see what happens, if it´s wrong just switch the leads.

I test polarity of the thermocouples I sell by hooking them up and touching them to a lightbulb, if the indicated temp goes up I have the polarity right, if it goes down I have it backwards

Thanks everyone I had read about the markings and that they would read in reverse in one of the manuals that was linked. My immediate thoughts was I don't remember a color coding on the thermocouple but will have to recheck it!

You know this site is one of the most informative sites out there! Seek and you shall be informed!

All thermocouples are DC devices, and have a + and - output. If the reading has a minus, reverse the leads on the TC. There is usually a red line or color on the negative lead.
