Help with a screwed up band saw that won't shut off.

The baldor is off an old compressor.
I would talk 'em down. or get a new motor.

I could always use this motor for my first kick at building my first grinder too

Two horse grinder !
THAT WOULD BE SOME GRINDER hahaha

Since we're talking wood I will show off my Baldor driven pride and joy.
She is just a little saw and that plank isn't all that big for what the Big Dogs cut but it is babinga and the Laguna saws are SO precise.
I'm in love.
You might consider one if you are resawing.

It doesn't sound like troubleshooting it over the internet would be smart in this case. Wiring in a new motor would be easier.

Agree with previous posts, (the guys who actually read the OP right the first time) It sounds like it is running on leakage current to ground, until the circuit trips. It could be in the start circuit, but since it happened while running you might check the motor leads on the motor for grounding or bad connections.

Sounds like you're gonna have a decent little upgrade. If I were you, I'd stick a Fenner Link belt on your new drive system. It will be easier to get the exact size you need, and it will cut down on vibration overall.

Before you run out and buy a motor I'd recommend you find a meter to diagnose what the problem is. No reason to spend $150 on a motor if the only problem is some broken wire or insulation somewhere.

To contradict a few other posts, this is a simple circuit and should be easy enough to diagnose over the forum. You just need to make a few simple checks with a meter.

I bought the 2hp baldor for $125. I can use it a couple places if not on the bandsaw. I'm happy. I will get my buddy to come by and do the wiring and check that the wall sockets are wired right too.

$125 is close to what I would have expected to pay to repair the 1/2 hp Delta that was in it.

That's a really good price for a 2HP Baldor. Well done.

Well, I got looking around craigslist some more and discovered an unused Marathon 3/4 hp motor for $100 a couple miles away. They retail $250+tax at Princess auto. So I fired the 3/4 hp into my bandsaw and have decided that the 2hp motor is going to power a 2x72 belt grinder I hope to build. No VFD but I think I will be happy with step pulley on my first try.

The sad but funny part is my son got looking in the 3/4 hp guy's garage and spotted a g60 Corrado with only 72 000km. My kid has been watching for a long time hoping to get one of these. So after much finagling and a small loan to my son to cover the difference of what he hasn't quite saved I went home with a car too. It's my car til he pays off the loan. He has to and from school and soccer privileges until he owns it.:p
