Not sure where to post this question so please forgive me if this is the wrong place. I recently bought a hand crank leather splitter or skiver. Not sure what it would be called. It was a cobbler tool. Problem is the blade has been grinded on and is not going to cut anything. I am not a knife maker so want to ask the pro's for help. The blade is square with 2 mounting holes on one side. It measures 2 1/16 x 1 10/16 an inch. I was wondering if someone could make me a couple new blades that would do the splitting. I do alot of leather work and need a tool like this but can't afford new ones so restored this one. Just needs proper sharpening or new blade. I would like to see if someone could make me a couple I could buy. Please let me know. Pictues would help but to complicated to show a picture but could send blade if someone can make them. John

Is there a differance between a splitting blade and a regular blade? I showed a picture of the machine after I cleaned and painted it. But as I said the blade is not sharp enough and was ground out of the right shape I think. I thought I might be able to find someone here who could make me a new one or two. Please let me know if someone is familier with these types of blades and might be able to help me out. Thank you. John

The photo you show appears to be an old "5 way" which is intended for shoe and boot making. If I am correct then the part you have shown is the skiving side of the machine and that is not intended to split leather.

It's a long shot, but if you can determine the brand of the machine then the folks at Pilgrim may be able to get you a new blade.

See link below.

Good luck

Paul. Thank you for the reply. It's a Progressive shoe mach'y miniapolis Minn. So yes it is for a shoe maker. As far as me calling it a splitting blade. I wasn't sure which to call it. And this is all the machine does. It's a hand crank. Blade can be moved to cut straight or tillted on an angle. Cutting service would be no more then 1 1/2 inches wide. John
