Help with a trade (not related to my business)

I'm still rather new at this, about 3-4 months with the customs, 2 months in business. The question I have is I have a guy we ageed on a trade, waited 2 weeks, no knife, so I send him an email, gives me some put offing thing, will send it Monday. So Wednesday comes around, he sends me an email, I see you have X knife on your website(not a personal knife as the one I am trading is) How about we trade for that one?

Now I've been nice to him, actually gave him a great deal, and he's IMO playing games.

Question is, now what? I doubt if he has sent the knife yet, even after 3+ weeks. How do I tell him that I think I'd rather not do the deal, without him getting upset because I have "tied" his knife up? Do I go through with the original deal because I said I would? Is there a win for me, or how do I deal with this person?

Sorry if this is in the wrong place, didn't think it fit in GB&U or W&C.

Thanks in advance for any advice you all can give!

I would say forget the deal, the trading forum here relies very heavily on trust, and if some guy is messing around with you, and you lose confidence in him, just forget the deal. Even if he bad mouths you, all you have to do is explain yourselve, and most people will blow it off and still be happy to trade with you. I have done several deals on the for sale forum, and most have gone well, but I have also had a few where I had to track people down, becuase it took them several weeks to send what they told me they would send the next day. For the most part if someone doesn't do everything they can to ensure the transaction goes smoothly I think the other party can just say screw it, and forget the deal.

Hey Paul, dont worry about it. Just tell the guy that he made a deal. He didnt follow through, and now he wants to play 'change the rules'. Inform him that yoou do not have time for his games, and his time to follow through has run out.

I have to agree with the rest of the guys i have done a lot of trades here and trust is very important for all of us if your getting the run around i would be very suspicious

Paul, IMO this is a GBU thread. You may not want to name the guy, but this is a trading forum issue. If you have not sent him a knife, or money, and you do not want the knife he sent, send it back and be done with this thing.

I am confused about your arrangement however. Did you send him anything? Or have you just been waiting to see his knife? If that is the case, you should not worry about 'tying his knife up' for three weeks. He did that, not you.

Good luck with your business! I have been reading about custom knives for over ten years, collecting seriously for six, and I certainly do not know enough to try and make a business venture out of my passion.
