I just heat treated my second batch of aeb-l knives. First batch came out great, second batch, 8 out of 10 warped. Some quite a bit. Any suggestions on how to straighten them.
The are thin ground kitchen type knives.
Could sure use your help with these. Thanks and best wishes.

Need a bit more info, what type of knives, what thickness? How where they quenched? Plates? When did they warp - out of plates? OR - out of Dry Ice or N2? If warped out of plates, then that's the time to straighten them - they should be fairly flexible while they're still warm - just as warm as you can comfortably hold them in your hands.

Blades approx. 3/32, 1950 degrees in kiln 20min, were straight going in, warped in kiln. Did soak in dry ice and alcohol 15 min. Quenched in alum. plates, Blocked straight with C clamps on aluminum angle and treated 385 in oven for 2 hrs. Still crooked, tried to put spacers between blade and aluminum with C clamps, but still crooked. Any thoughts or suggestions would be most helpful.

OK, it sounds like you've done what you can do with clamps. Do I understand the blades were straight going into the dry ice? Warped when they came out of the dry ice? I've had that to happen also, especially when laying blades in dry ice mixture. "IF" you can't get the blades straight with clamps 'n blocking, about the only thing to do would be to re-heat treat. Per Devin (the expert on AEB-L) you can anneal AEB-L by the following:

To anneal AEB-L wrap blades in foil, soak at 1350⁰F for 4 hours – does not require slow cooling. This is a very good condition to re-harden from. This is a simple sub-critical anneal to allow straightening before re-heat treating in cases of warpage

Ken: Thanks very much. That sounds like a very plan, I'm going to give it a try.
I was desperate. Best wishes.
