Help with first knife

Some of the knives I looked at today had the liner lock and I liked those much better than the thumb release locks.

By thumb release, do you mean lockbacks, like this one? Liner locks are also released using your thumb, at least that's the way I do it. Liner locks aren't bad at all, but they have a higher failure rate than lockbacks, especially in inexpensive knives. CRKT makes very good liner locks, but I still don't trust them 100%. The LAWKS system, which they use on many of their models, makes the liner lock pretty much failsafe when the LAWKS is engaged. Here's an example of a CRKT LAWKS equipped folder. I have one of these, it's a good knife but massive! Very, very stout, and once I've engaged the LAWKS I don't worry about it folding up on me.

www.crkt.com has a listing of almost their entire product line. Any of those that are listed as having the LAWKS safety and appeal to you should work well. The Lightfoot M1 has generated a lot of interest on these forums. I haven't used one personally so I can't comment. I do like the looks of it. Good luck.

Do all current Queen models use D2? I didn't see any steel type listed on their Web Site. Of course, I could have missed it.

I believe all the "Queen" brand are D2; not sure on their "Schatt & Morgan" brand. All the "Queens" I've purchased in the last year+, about 6 sj's and fb's total, are D2.

Thanks to all who responded.

I went to the knife store today. I couldn't find anything I liked with the liner lock that was in my price range so I purchased the lightweight version of the Spyderco Delica. It's a beautiful knife that I'm sure I'll enjoy for a long time.

Thanks again.
