Help with fixed blade decision?

Yes, the Meaner Street is made out of INFI, and the company store should be getting them soon.

I would go Meaner for the added thickness and hence added toughness. Sweet little blade. Thinking of getting one myself.

What is 1/8" in mm. It sounds similar to the Spyderco Military it's 4mm thick, 4 in long flat ground S30V, G10 handles only one nested Ti liner to lock blade open, open back, only thing I dislike about it is tip-down carry I like 'em tip up, I never mentioned being partial to spyders and benchmades did I, but the Rat Trap sounds awesome I may have to pick one up. My edc is a delica, and i'm looking for a fixed blade to handle all the real dirty work so the rest of my folders can rest. :)

Also I'm curious what would be a good/fair price for a meaner street I can't seem to find one on the Busse Company store.

Not sure about the conversion to mm from 1/8". The Rat Trap is tip down carry also. I don't know about the comparison with your Military from personal experience but I saw a LOT of posts of people retiring Militarys after getting their Rat Trap. Perhaps a honeymoon but I think the thinness and lighter weight with what everyone seems confident is a robust design will win out in the long run.

They should be getting to the store in a few weeks maybe. The Leaner was $197 and the Meaner was $227

An inprecise measurment shows the the blade on my RT to be +/- 3.5 mm(?)

I guess the Meaner Streets will be around the $250 mark when the company store gets stock.

Maybe Skunk can chime in with a price when he sees this thread.

Does anyone remember how much they were during the ordering period?

Dunner, you the man. Did you remember that, or have you been stashing useful information?

And the Lifetime Guarntee, is that for real? I'm a skeptic, sorry but I am I thought Spydercos were the ugliest knife on the planet until a couple of years ago and then I finally bought one and started carrying and there's no telling how many I've bought since, so although I may be slow to change if I'm convinced something's better I will buy. BTW one thing I really admire about this forum is that although all you guys are obviously Busse fans you don't go out of your way to trash other manufacturers products, first class, just had to say that.

BTW 3.5mm blade is the same thickness as a Spyderco Endura, just had to say that I have no Idea how thick my Buck Strider folder is but my Military is 4mm and the Buck is noticably thicker than it, also has thick handles and is heavy for a all day carry folder in my opinion. Before we're done I think you guys are going to sell me on a Busse and I may encourage a few Spyder purchases. BTW my all time fav folder are the old style spyderco police flat ground G10 handles, but unfortunatly they are discontinued I managed to get one but have never used it since I may no be able to replace it......man was that off topic, sorry guys really do appreciate all the help.

Nah, David...I had to go to BadMojo to find it. I have been thinking of getting on so the figures were not far lost in my mind though ;) .

Thanks for the kind words SpydieFan. Most people around here love knives too much and own many from different makers to spend a lot of time bagging on other makers. I felt the same way the first time I stepped into this forum. I am always impressed with the quality people in this forum and I am glad you decided to join us!

I EDCed a 1990 Police model for 13 years. It got retired when I bought an AL Mar SERE.

I sometimes carry a Spyderco Rescue around the farm.

Are the Sere's as good as their rep, again I've never seen one, I've come to trust Spyderco and Benchmade quality in folders, but have never seen an Al Mar in person. Anybody got any good stories about the Meaner Street or how it compares to a Benchmade Nimravus?

No problem. I have heard great things about the Military. Very nice folder it sounds like. A lot of us Busse fanatics suffer that same dilema. You get an amazing, super capable knife that is a limited in some way. Pushing yourself over the edge and using it is almost harder than buying it!

Have a good one and let us know what you end up deciding.

Cheers!

Dunner, you still the man. I checked out the picture, but forgot to look at the price.

Spydiefan04, thanks for the kind words. The Busse forum is a great place to hang out when not playing with blades.

I think I'll be EDCing the SERE for quite a while. The VG10 blade holds an excellent edge, the handle is very comfortable, and the liner lock is solid. I carried a Buck/Strider Spear Point for a couple of months between the Police and the SERE, but haven't picked it up since the SERE arrived.

BMs are rare in Australia (customs don't like the axis lock), so I can't give you a comparison.

The SERE is significantly thinner than my Buck/Strider, but still fills the hand.

All the edges on the SERE's handle are rounded, so the ergonomics seem to be good.

The clip makes the knife ride very nicely.

Sorry to hear about the prob w/ axis lock, I really like them, but I do prefer Spyderco's with lock backs, I think some peole call them front locks, mainly bc the blade stays closed even if the knife is dropped. I could go ahead and order the bog dog or safari skinner, but I think I shall save up for a meaner street that thing just looks wicked and you guys have done a pretty good convincing job :) just can't swing $250 for a knife at the moment. However once I do get it I will try to post my first review, hopefully I won't embarass myself too much :) Thanks again for the help/info, I also think there may be a ratweiler or steel heart in my future just for kicks. Also I just have to throw this out there, the Spyderco ATR totally rocks, if you don't have one get one.
