My son has joined the ARMY and reports for Boot Camp 10-30.
He has signed up for EOD Training. (bombsquad)
David at Great Lakes ( www.greatlakeswaterjetinc.com ) has worked his magic with the
Official EOD Logo. He has designed a knife per my son's spec's. Basically a reverse Tanto. I need advise on several things.
1) Blade length We are leaning towards 5" blade
2) Blade width We are torn between 1/8 and 3/16
3) Blade material David has 1095, A1, D2, and 154cm on hand
I will need further help as this project moves along
Thanks BFers !

Hi Tom, my thoughts on this....

1) Blade length We are leaning towards 5" blade

Probably not bad... I'd say between 5-7"

2) Blade width We are torn between 1/8 and 3/16

I like 5/32" as a good in-between

3) Blade material David has 1095, A1, D2, and 154cm on hand

I'd probably go with 154cm purely out of maintenance concerns if it's going to see hard use (I know that others would disagree)

Just my two cents...

This is a graduation gift, not an edc tool, they use leatherman and one-handed opening folders, According to the EOD Sargent I talked with from
their training school
