Help with handle choice-newbie

Hey Mike, yeah it takes a lot to make the leap but once you have hang on! Enjoy the ride. I've been collecting since I was a kid, my dad got me into it. It's something to this day that we enjoy together.

Dwayne makes a beautiful well made leather sheath. Orginally I was going to buy Kydex but once I saw how rock solid Dwayne's sheaths were I made up my mind to try leather again. Man was I glad I did. Love the look and feel of leather and his sheaths are just plain rugged. Built like a tank. Take a look at his website or email them. His customer service is just as good as his sheaths. Be aware they just moved into a new place so response time right now is a little slow but well worth the wait. If Kydex is your groove there are some names on this forum and Jerry's main website that can help you. I understand David Brown makes an impressive Kydex sheath. Ask around and I'm sure you'll get a response either way as what the guys like and dislike about the available sheaths.

Congrats on the ordering of your new FSH! I'm sure you'll love it as much as I do. If not I'm sure you'll have no prob selling it on the private market but I doubt you will! I'm sure you're going to make a fine HOG! Oink Oink!

Stay Strong & No Regrets!

Hey Mike - I jumped on into the trough about three months ago and it is addictive. I have been collecting knives going on 20 years now, but I have never enjoyed it as much as this. I have a mere few Busse's compared to many of the BOSS HOG's here who I aspire too be like, but I am working on it. These folks are a wealth on info, and this as you have already seen is an excellent community forum. I hope you get as much enjoyment out of this as I am and good luck with your collection.

Anyone have one of the Semper Paratus sheaths? I like the design (isn't that like a rat sheath?), but in some of the pics it looks a little- dang I hate to say this and no slight intended having never seen or handled one- but in the pic it looks a bit sloppy?

Also, can anyone tell me the difference between a satin finish and double cut?

I can't believe how many Busse's some people have! Didn't your Mom tell you there's Infi starved people in California? I'd be glad to provide an address for anyone interested in making a donation! :)

Thanks Rick, good example.

Are you a 1911 fan? That was my first "premium" expenditure- went looking for a Springfield Loaded and ended up with a Wilson Combat CQB (I live in So Cal, so not much choice in the model)

I have a Springfield Armory Omega (6" ported longslide) 10 MM that I had refinished by AP&W after having some mild work done to it. I chose the brushed chrome finish. It is a great shooter, but I wouldn't say that I was a "fan" of the 1911. I'm one of those Luddites whose real love is revolvers, preferably S&W. I also had AP&W put the mattte finish on my bedstand gun. It's a ported (Weigand "Tame the Beast" package) 3" .44 magnum. Here's a couple pictures:

Matte finish:

Brushed finish (with obligatory Busse content):

Wow- Sweet stuff! That revolver is AWESOME! I would have concerns about it for home defense- as nice as those ports are, you probably won't have any night vision left after the first shot!

I'm an equal opportunity employer too- my first handgun was/is a 4" .357- love that gun- sweet to shoot (believe it or not, it's my wife's favorite) and amazingly accurate for a production gun.

Beautiful pair in that second pic- way to go Rick- thanks for sharing!

Sorry guys. Double tapping.

Hi Brian (Solstice) and Rick (rbmcmjr)

I’ve been trying to reply to you for four days now but for some reason every time I’ve wanted to post my reply the system froze!

You can hardly imagine how helpful your information has been!
I’ve been looking all over the BladeForums to obtain it with no success though.

Holly cow! 1 lb 8 oz?!? Wow! I knew this is a big knife but this one is something else. I mean, chopping with this lady has to be a good exercise for both biceps and triceps! It’s like a pilates machine! Come to think of it at $362.00 you get a bullet-proof knife plus a portable pilates machine ALL IN ONE PACKAGE  ;) . Now, THAT IS A DEAL!!!

FSH: The pilates machine that every porker is craving for!!! :D :D :D

Hey, that sounds like a nice commercial! By the way, what is the blade thickness at the point where the handle begins?

Take care,

George
