Can anybody tell me if there are any books, charts, or any published work on the different handle materials, and how you can identify them? also exotic woods? Thank you for any information.

I'd say your best bet for info and pictures of handle materials and exotic woods would be knife maker supplier's catalogs. Look in the back of Blade magazine and call or write to as many as you can, even the ones that might cost a couple bucks. Some even have great tips on knifemaking and handle finishing. Take care! Always think of your fellow knife makers as partners in the search for the perfect blade, not as people trying to compete with you and your work!

You can find books on the subject but another way is to go to a hardwood dealer. They usually have sample packs of exotic wood for identification. It might cost you a little but it would help better than just having a description in text.

If you get a catalog from www.woodcraft.com/woodcraft/homepage.asp they have a section with most all of the exotic woods with accompanying pictures. They also a have a wood sampler set. It is fairly expensive but has just about every wood under the sun.
