Help with Hinderer choice

The 3.5 would be the safe choice bc I know I'll like it but I want the 3 bc it has the potential of me loving it (or not liking it) plus I really like the spanto not for any functional reason it just looks sick and from what I've heard the 3.5 spantos aren't that great at slicing things

Think I've settled on a choice think I'll get a 3" because I looked at the the blade thickness of the 3.5 spanto and it's thicker than my larger 561 at almost .20 and that's kinda crazy in my book. Looked at the deminesions compared to two small knives that I have (the delica and Cryo) and being larger in every way to the Cryo and near the same to the delica it should be fine. The coloration I wanted I could only find in the 3" too I'll add pics of it. Thanks everyone for your very helpful advice. I will be getting a 562 I think for not having a 3.5 bc it's like half the price and I can't bring myself to buy two xm-18s

I would have gone 3.5 inch. Remember you are losing about 3/8" of cutting edge to the choil. Definitely recommend a spanto as a first XM - they say "Hinderer" to me. And I agree with Matt (post 21) that Small Sebenza > 3" XM-18.

So 2.75 cutting edge. The biggest concern to the 3.5 spanto is the thickness off the blade and behind the edge and I want a spanto only and the 3" has a thinner blade. The 3.5 is what I want in every way except the blade and can't get the bronze lock side bc it is out of stock

I tried the 3" and it was way too small in my opinion plus it's the same retail price as the 3.5 so you're getting a lot less knife for the same money. Wish RHK did the same thing as CRK and charged less for their smaller model. I feel the 3" would be a lot more appealing in the $325-$350 range.
Also keep in mind that the xm18 gen 5 with the lock bar insert is only available in the 3.5 at the moment.
I too use to have trouble deciding between carrying a big thick do anything knife and losing out on raw slicing ability vs a slimmer blade but feeling under knifed until i started carrying a secondary blade like a sak cadet, slippy, or mini grip and now i can have both!

I agree the 3" is way overpriced. Nearly everyone has said 3.5" so I'll go with it instead bc that many people probably are right. Thanks for changing my mind to probably the correct choice

I’ve had both and in my experience tje 3.5 was a lot to carry size and weight wise. The 3” Just my opinion was perfect for daily carry and was a very well made knife. The larger to my mileage didn’t cut or slice well with factory edge and geometry. Im sure would do good with regrind or re profile though. I have medium size hands, and I always find the 3.5” knives a bit big and 3” are always a bit small. Hope it helps, good luck

I feel exactly the same way. The 3.5" is awesome, feels great in hand but is simply too much for me for EDC.

The 3" to me is a perfect EDC size knife.

I want the 3 but the larger is just a better buy I feel if I'm just getting 1 bc I can't go wrong with it and might be able to find a good deal on a 3" spanto on the exchange one day

I looked at the deminesions of the Kershaw Leek and it's near identical to the 3" but like .04 thinner and I deem the leek "too small" can anyone give any first hand experience on it? bc this and Bear have what really swayed the choice to the 3.5

I left a visitor message for you on your profile page. Check it out before you buy.

Any idea if they are going to give the 24’s the gen 5 treatment? I’ve looked and looked and can’t find any info

I’ve owned both at the same time. I really like both but the 3.5 fits the bill better as far as a “hard use” knife goes. The 3” XMs are very small and thin in comparison.

That’s the perfect way to decide by having both n hand. That was very generous to lend out 1,000.00 worth of knives.

Yeah that's out of this world wanted me to carry and use them but I think I'll just handle them and ship them back tomorrow :)

I like my 561 but my the 3.5 inch xm18 is a better edc for me. Fine work knife. I prefer a 3.5 “ blade to a 3” blade for most tasks.
