Just joined the forum but have been lurking for a while. Not new to axes by any means....I have been hanging handles since I was in my teens.

I've had this for a few years and just never got around to it. Can from an estate sale for cheap with a dried out but useable handle. The handle is very slender, straight, and only 24" long. Head has no marks that I can find, but the poll is pretty beat up. Weighs in at 1 1/8 lbs. The head has (had) remnants of yellow paint on it which appears to be original.

It reminds me of a Norland Tomahawk, except for the lugs. Any guesses?

Wouldn't call that a Kentucky, but it's definitely an oddball... Rounded lugs and a bit 1/3 wider than the poll? Never seen one like it.

Looks like a Kentucky pattern to me also...Or maybe a Georgia pattern.

Proportions don't seem quite right for either of those. Also, I have never seen either of those patterns in anything other than a full sized axe.

Maybe European?

Collins' were marked M when Mann edge Co. Made them. I have a jersey pattern marked m with the weight.

A similar pattern was made in England.
This hatchet was made by Whitehouse (presumably Whitehouse Bros. Ltd., Cannock, England) during WWII.

Looks like a similar weight, but the lugs are bigger on this one.

Out of curiosity, what's the relevance of the arrow stamp on that one? I've seen it on several different brands of WWII-era tools (Birkinshaw is the one that comes to mind first)

Heh I was thinking of buying that.

Yeah the price was lower, but with Swedish fever it will certainly sell for more I would pay. Want to guess? It;s at $36 now, I bet it will at least double if not triple.

I recently saw an old Hultafors maul head go for either $90 or $140 I forget.

I'm just going to stick to picking the odd Swedish head out of antique malls. $10.00 for a Swedish Sandvik Boys axe beats paying 10x that.

How about a 1lb Super Banko found on the floor of a barn for $1, or a full sized Wetterlings in a 5 gallon bucket in someone's yard for $3.33? :D

That little head went for $81. Yikes.
