I bought a batch of Scandinavian wood for woodcraft. Some of the pieces was unmarked. Any idea of what this could be?

Yes it has a greyish gold tone to it. The batch contained Scandinavian leaf tree woods. This corner has been freshly cut an it has more of an amber tone.

Could be Cherry. It's pretty straight-grained and the right colour for Cherry.

Way, way too uninteresting for Birch, too straight grained and too reddish. Plus with the amazing choice of birch available in Scandewegia,
this would never have made it to the possibles pile, and would have gone straight on the fire.

The birch in the batch was ether masur or burled or wavy or a combination of all thee. Some of it had ageded to an amber patina but when cut the core is birch colored. This is amberich when cut.

Went to the library and got a wood identifying book but the images was so small an blurry it really got me no-were fast. But when I got home the seller replied to an email stating that it indeed was cherry. Pheew. Thanks guys!

No cherry smell thou, I was hoping for this. But its 25 years old and under an inch thin so maybe the smell is gone.
