Hi Guys,

I really need some help using the sapphire stone.

Should I still look for a burr using this stone? Will it be smaller than with other stones?

How long does it take to get a good result with this stone after the fine diamond stone?

Any advice on using the sapphire and anything else would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Phil.

THe sapphire is more for polishing. You won't get a noticeable burr, i don't. Use very lift pressure and soft strikes with the sapphire.

Going from the fine diamond to the sapphire will take some time to get the polished edge. There is a yellow ultra fine ceramic that is between the fine diamond and sapphire ceramic. You may want to get the ultra fine as another step in getting a clean polished edge.
I do, fine diamond, ultra fine ceramic, sapphire ceramic and finish with a light strop.
I do use oil on the ceramic to keep them clean, the sapphire does not take much off compared to the ultra fine.

It takes a little while to get a nice polish on the the blade. Iv'e found the Lansky Leather Stropping hone really helps.

What Ajack said. I added the super sapphire to the basic three-stone set and it did nothing. I added the yellow ultra fine stone in between fine and sapphire and now it works.

Thank you guys for taking time to reply. I will definitely get the yellow ultra fine hone and use it like you suggested.

Should I get much of a burr with this hone?

Not at all, but remember, you want to feel for a burr after every stone you use. How else will you know you're reaching the apex of the edge?
Also, if I remember correctly the fine diamond is 600 grit, the yellow ceramic is 1000 grit and the sapphire is 2000 grit.
