I am looking to get a nice big camp and/or "survival" knife. After doing a bit of searching I have found that the Ontario RTAK II....and I like it.
But, RAT Cutlery does not make it and Ontario no longer makes it.
So, what else would you all recommend?
Thanks

RAT Cutlery RC 5 or RC 6 ... if you want to go big ... RC 4 is probably the best size for "survival".

Find one still floating around before they are gone.

My brother has one, and a good friend has one, and they rock.

BTW - I think RAT is working on a design for a big knife, you might wait for it...

Voila! http://www.ratcutlery.com/junglas_machete.htm

There are loads of Ontario RTAK 2s floating around. I can get them here for around £150 GBP and there's no shortage of sellers wanting about $100 USD for them. Ontario no longer making them could actually be a blessing to you as vendors clear their shelves of old stock at a cut price.

I'd just wait a month or so and the Junglas machete (RC-10) should be available. I have both the RTAK and RTAK II, and they are both good choppers. Or you can spend the big bucks and get the new Busse Bushwacker that is currently available.

look around and get an rtak II , paid 80$ for mine a couple of years ago. I like the design, it is better at clearing light springy vegetation than some of my choppers like a machete but still has the weight and strength for chopping. Handle is a little large but if you don't have small hands you will like it.

RTAK 2's are very nice knives for sure. Though i will mirror another post w/ "get a bk9"

I love Ethans stuff tho

The Becker BK-9 and Ranger RD9 are both good choppers, too. Another favorite of mine is the light, fast, flat ground Ontario SP-5 Survival Bowie.

The BK9 looks like a good alternative, but I just love the blade profile of the RTAK II. I will just have to hunt one down.

Go look at the makers area and have a custom made for a reasonable price.
JK, Fiddleback, Koyote etc make fantastic knives in that size and you can get exactly what you want instead of simply accepting what is offered in a production knife.

Kershaw Outcast, BK9, or Browning Crowell Barker knife have all been raved about on this forum.

You can have mine if you want. I'll post a pic later when I get the chance.
