Help with large "survival" knife (RTAK2)

I'd just wait a month or so and the Junglas machete (RC-10) should be available. I have both the RTAK and RTAK II, and they are both good choppers. Or you can spend the big bucks and get the new Busse Bushwacker that is currently available.

I'd get the Junglas Machete that is coming out soon. Rat Cutlerys first chopper, and I believe it will be one awesome blade

I would pick up a Busse or a new Junglas Machete, but cost is a prohibitive factor....a Busse costs more than my monthly truck payment.

Go look at the makers area and have a custom made for a reasonable price.
JK, Fiddleback, Koyote etc make fantastic knives in that size and you can get exactly what you want instead of simply accepting what is offered in a production knife.

I quite like the look of Dave Farmers Sidearm for the price !

Agreed, I own a lot choppers, and several that are being discussed here, and I would take a Koyote Bush Beater ir Farmer large blade over any of them. It's matter of personal preference of course:thumbup:.

While all of these comments are true, if someone was going to give me an RTAk I would certainly accept it and enjoy what I think would be a great knife.

You are right of course, hope my comments didn't come across the wrong way. I believe that 95% of the blades that get discussed on WS&S are great blades and will serve well. I think we all have fun splitting hairs to a degree and looking for the ultimate knife... I have an RTAK and she's a very good blade, but after hitting things with the Koyote and Farmer blades, I am just addicted.... and probably a little too enthusiastic!

Me too. You didn't come across(to me at least) wrong at all. I agree with you wholeheartedly. I have a couple of JK knives and a Crump and always recommend buying customs. Especially from the great makers here. That said, I wouldn't turn down a RTAK if someone wanted to give me one.

readyme, sorry dude, my blade is the RTAK, not the RTAK II. Don't know why I thought it was the II. :o

But the offer still stands. This RTAK has seen light use. The finish has been scrapped of the swedge (I can't remember why, might have gotten sap on it at one point). The swedge is not sharpened (can be used to hack with though). The handle is huge. HUGE. Ya gotta have big paws to use this comfortably. If you need it, it's yours with 2 conditions attached:

1) You do someone a kind turn in the next 12 months
2) You post a picture or two of the beast in action

Let me know if you want it.

What's the difference between the RTAK and the RTAK II?

RTAK is the first generation of this knife: clip point with swedge, big handle.
RTAK II is the updated version with drop point and more contoured handle.

There are probably a couple of other differences, but I think those are the chief points. Obviously I'm not an RTAK expert. :o
