Help with my first Busse

I'm new to Busse knives and I would really like to have one. I know that it is impossible to get their "folder" so I have no choice but to pick one from the fixed blade line.

I usually carry a folder so I really want a small fixed blade that can easily fit in my pocket and one that is easy to carry. There is just so many and it was just hard to look up each one's measurements. I would prefer it to be light but I don't mind if it's heavy since I know Busses are thick. As you can tell I would make this knife as an EDC knife :) Any suggestions?

Also, I would prefer it to have the INFI steel but so far as I know, all Busses are made in this steel right?

Thanks :)

Glenn

Jerry's knives have all been INFI (nitrogen-infused steel) for quite some time now.

Hmm. Lighter EDC. There are lots of choice in Jerry's standard line, and you can also choose from Swamprat and Scrapyard (less expensive alternatives made from other good steels ... Jerry knows how to treat steel right).:)

Small/smaller Busses: Cultellus, Game Warden, SAR-3, Active Duty or AD, any of the various Mean/Meaner family. The new BOSS Street knife, still on sale at his main website, is larger but still, to my mind, a solid EDC choice. Jerry's knives are usually more expensive on the secondary market, but the recent explosion of his designs and the current recession have conspired to keep prices down (good for you).

You can stare at Bad Mojo a bit to look at the older knives. There are other good sites you can find through Google. When you're ready, patience will reward you with a reasonably priced Busse EDC ... of that, I am certain.

Just post your questions, and we Busse-ites will be happy to offer our views.

There is a post-Blade "ganzaa" coming soon. Think of this as an on-line auction ... rules coming soon. A fun opportunity to pick up Busse blades.:D Not sure what blades will be offered, but probably larger ones.

Good luck and "see" you soon.;)

For EDC the boss street, meaner street, active duty, high street, game warden, and Sar-3 would make great EDC knives.

For me, SAR3 or Active Duty are nice sized and can be found for a decent price if one is patient.

Thanks for the great responses guys :) I will surely check out the knives you guys mentioned.

Thanks for the heads up and great response :)

Where can I find this Blade "ganzaa"?

Thanks for the heads up and great response :)

It will be here in the Busse section of bladeforums. You'll see a notice about it as soon as plans are put together for it. The knives offered will be listed, the date and time will be posted and eventually rules/directions/prices will be posted as well.

I would say the SAR-3 is to date, the best EDC Busse offered. You can find a bunch in the exchange. Its a culmination of many requested design features. Its light, but stout.

...and just as an FYI - when you say "impossible" to get their folder, there never was a folder. Hasn't been made yet, nor confirmed if it ever will be. Shoot me a PM when the Ganza is posted if you don't understand how it will work. :D

Not true. There are several honorable Hogs who have one in their possession. They will just never sell it or show it.

A really easy to find and IMO one of the best right now is the SAR 3.
I just got one, feels great in hand and small enough to EDC.

The SAR-3 would be a nice intro. It is sweet looking and can still be purchased for its release price (if you time things right). I think it might be a little overly stout to be ideal for me. My first choice would be a Cultellus. It has thinner blade stock and is smaller in height and overall girth.

Swamp Rat is still filling orders for the Swamp Warden. Although I think the blade is a overly tall I do like the overall size, weight, and compactness. The handle could be more comfortable. Although not INFI or satin finished, SR101 is an incredibly good steel and it does have nicely thin blade stock. The price makes it a screaming good deal.

I looked at the sar-3 because so many people are recommending me that one and I love it!

What's the market price for this one? Can anybody help me find one? :D

Just look around and dont get hosed on your first Busses as there are some around that would gladly take advantage. LOTS of Busses around for sale, not like it used to be so be picky!

I've found some SAR-3's but I cant find sheaths for them. Do you guys know where I can get one or maybe you guys have some?

Also, I can't find the specs for the SAR-3 anywhere. Can you guys help me find it?

I was going to post a link to a SAR3 thread in the exchange, and then saw you already found that thread. Pumpkin is awesome!!! Best color offered in my opinion.

+1 to the Swamp Warden.

In a small edc blade I really don't think you need the properties of INFI and unless you aren't carrying on your belt or IWB, I've found the smaller Busses like the AD or GW to be too much for the pocket and too much for edc in general. When I was in my fixed blade edc period I found myself often just leaving either my AD or GW at home due to weight. I don't own a SAR3, but imagine the same sort of experience.

Of course it depends on what edc means to you and your knife laws - my perspective is from living in NYC. When I'm upstate, I have problems carrying a fixed blade on my belt.

I rarely ever edc a fixed blade on my person anymore (though I ALWAYS keep one in my edc bag), but when I do it's usually the ESEE Izula which is very similar to the Swamp Warden, but just more comfy for my hands.

Hello my friend. I also live in the NYC area. It is important to know the knife laws here, for sure. believe it or not, you cannot carry any folder on you in New York that can be opened with one hand. I know, sounds crazy, but its the law here. for this reason, i only carry small fixed blades now, as you are allowed to carry any size fixed blade anywhere outside the 5 buroughs. However, if you are in the 5 boroughs, then you must carry a fixed blade with a blade under 4 inches. This is fine for me. But, as i have taken advice from a lot of police officers out here, they say you are better off either way if you do NOT have it out in the open. i know its considered conceal carry, but the cops just don't want to know that they can see it. if they search you for any reason, just let them know that you have a knife with in legal limits on you. hope this helps
Dave
