Help with my first Busse

Here are 2 of my favorite knives for all day carry....
First is my Cultellus and second is my BAD....Very comfortable to wear on my side....

The Sus Scrofa is light, if you like the blade shape. The handle is nice and it feels like a quick, nasty little knife. I have a SAR-4, and the Scrofa feels about 1/3 as heavy. If you get a SAR, be sure you can "handle" the handle. I have a 4 and an 8, and the handle gets wide near your little finger. It feels kind of strange to hold when you grip it (Please don't barbecue me for saying that!). The SAR's are heavy, but thats a good type of heavy; sturdy!

Leather, or kydex? I got my leather sheath from Savage Leather Sheaths. Quick turn around and very cheap. I'd quote a price but I don't want to misquote in the event he changed it. Excellent quality.

I want a kydex sheath. I heard there are custom ones for sale?

Thanks for all the great responses guys! So not only Busse knives are nice but Busse people are really nice too! :D

BTW, I just bought a SAR-3. I want a few other models though for comparison. Really looking into the swamp warden now but I already have an Izula? I'm also looking at the SARS-3, Inactive duty, Active duty and the Cultellus. What are your opinions on these guys?

There is no SARS-3. Typo? There are plenty of Busse fans that make kydex sheaths. Do a search in this section and in the exchange for SAR 3 kydex and you'll find a couple.

Contact steelnut here on the boards, or mashed cat

I have a SAR 3. Great knife, can't put it down. I wanted the paper micarta, but settled with the black micarta. After a while, the color doesn't matter, but the feel does. Great balance, concealable. and the micarta handle makes it a comfort to hold. I just bought a strop and some ultra fine ceramic stones to sharpen. I put a link before on sharpening this INFI blade. If you have anymore ideas in addition to 1000 grit sand paper with stropping and some ultra fine ceramic stones, let me know. I sure don't want to mess up anything.

The SAR3 specs from the Busse Company Store website:

BLADE STEEL: INFI
BLADE: 3 1/4 INCHES
OVERALL: 7 3/8 INCHES
HARDNESS: 58-60 Rc
THICKNESS: APPROX .160
HANDLE: MICARTA

Here are a few EDC size blades with a couple larger ones and some other brands thrown in to help you size different models.
Just missing a Culti which would be in the third spot up from the bottom in the first picture if it were here.

The BAD is about the size of the average folder and is only .125 thick. Not all Busses are thick!

Top to bottom:
SFNOLE .220
SHBA .243
Boss Street Proto .213
Meaner Street .220
* Cultellus* if it were here/not pictured is .125)
BAD (Boney Active Duty) .125
Skeleton Warden .190

Thank you so much for the comparison pics! They look really great and were helpful :)

Is the Game Warden the same size as a SAR-3? That skeleton warden looks nice. What is the shortest Busse to date? What is the second shortest?

Also, what is the difference between micarta and paper micarta? I bought a SAR-3 with black paper micarta handles.

Thanks :)
Glenn

The Bear Cub would have to be in the shortest / smallest list. It has a 2.6" blade. The Assault Shaker has a 2.5" blade but does not come with scales. They are both 5.5" overall. The Piano Key would be very easy to carry also. The Wardens are 3.0"

This will generally have the blade and overall lengths listed for each knife. There are pictures for most so it should give an idea of overall bulk.

Don't get the guy's hopes up! ;) The Piano Key is a custom and there aren't many. He'll have considerably better odds finding a Skeleton Key. Same knife, just without an ivory micarta handle, and usually coated. :)

Oops, my slip. They is what I was trying to say. But without some idea of his price range or design criteria it might be as good an answer as any other.

Great choice!
Now order you a nice leather sheath.
I think the difference in the Micartas is the base that is used in them.IIRC canvas, linen and paper are the most used and each gives a different look. The strength should be about the same.
