Help with my first CRK recommendation!

Okay, so I have pouring over this site for weeks and finally decided to maket the step up to a CRK! I currently EDC a Para 2 with G10 scales. The only 1 thing I dont like is I feel it's a little big being clipped to my pocket. For the weekend it's fine, however I work in an office and Im forced to keep it at home as it doesnt really go with a suit and tie! I've always wanted a CRK and now it's time! Its something about the beautiful simplistic look of the plain folders that draws me in (besides all of the glowing reviews!)

This brings me to my dilemma. I want to order a CRK today, but need some thoughts/advice. It's between:

1. Small Sebenza Insingo
2. Large Sebenza (regular or insingo blade)
3. The Umnumzaan

I am leaning towards the Small Insingo as I have heard, from many, that this is the perfect EDC knife. I mainly will be using it for small odd jobs, nothing too demanding. Think this is a good choice or should I consider the other 2?? (I know once I get my first, the second will come sometime in the future!)

For small odd jobs the small sebenza is the way to go. The large is your basic all a rounder that can handle mostly anything you throw at it. The zaan is just badass =)

Small Insigno, if your worried about an office environment and the like.

Umnumzaan if you can bring yourself not to care:D:thumbup:

I went umnumzaan first, planning on a large insingo next. Would not change the way I did it at all. I know I will never get a small, the Mnandi is imo the way to go for smaller friendlier crk.

Of your choices the small insingo is the answer. Either of the other choices will present the same office problem you already have. Probably not what you want, but I would also look at a wood inlay 21-nice gemtlemans looking knife. After you fall in love with CRK's get a large for home.

My only concern with the Umnumzaan and the Large Seb is the actual size. Ive read that the small Seb is a bit smaller than the Para 2 and the large is little bigger. Are the profiles smaller on the CRk?

If I were to do it all over again I would go with the Zaan first...period. Its a big knife but very well put together, and doesnt feel as large as it is.

If you need a smaller task knife, the small seb is it and the insingo blade profile is great.

So would my perfect combo be a Zaan for the weekends, small seb for work? I dont even have my 1st one yet and I'm already thining of 2!!!

thats usually how it goes. get the small first and if you find it insufficient trade up or buy another =)

Thats how i started, but the Zaan seems to jump in my pocket more frequently :)

I decided to get a Seb about a month ago, and really struggled between the small and lrg. I went with the Small. It's a great knife and it does everything I need it to do .... but .... it's kinda small. I think if you have small hands (which I don't) it might be workable, but with larger hands, you're gonna get a 3 or 3.5 finger grip on the Small Seb, not a solid 4. In no way do I regret getting the small, as it's a fantastic little knife, but my sights are set on picking up the Large in the next few months, and that'll probably become my EDC knife. If I could start all over, I'd start with the Large, but again, I do not regret getting the small; I just feel that with its non-full-grip, I'm not getting the full, visceral CRK experience that I crave.

You will easily end up with 2+.

I got two larges to start and then a small and then a Zaan. Right now I just have the two larges but will likely add a small. I sold my small regular because it seemed a bit too small for my hands but I've come to realize I didn't actually use it that much and probably should have.

Here you go for Size Comparison.

Wow thank you for the size comparison. It does give me a good idea on what to expect. The small does look a little more pocket friendly and the actual blade looks to be about the same size as the Para 2. So, which one finds the most pocket time for you?

I think it's clear which way you should go, but let's look at the opposite scenario first: first you get the large you may not get to carry it enough. Then if you get the small and it may be just a little underwhelming after handling the large.

Based on what you've posted, and your office job, I think the small insingo would be the perfect edc for you.

Get it first and carry it every week day, you will love it. The large or the Umnum is a little big for office carry for alot of people.

Then, when you're ready, pick up the regular-bladed lg or Umnum. I think if you purchase in that order you will be extremely satisfied. You want your first CRK purchase to be one that you will use. But then, when you get that larger one, you're going to love it too.

Just my 0.02

This is exactly what I am going to do. It was the way I was leaning in the first place. Thanks to you, and all other members, my first CRK is on the way! Just ordered the Small Seb Insingo as it will truly see more use than the Lg or Umnum at this time. The day it's delivered can't get here soon enough!

In an office environment I'd stick with the Small Sebenza or even better, a Mnandi (you can even clip it to your shirt pocket, it looks like a pen clip). There isn't anything there (the office) that you'll need bigger than a Mnandi or Small Sebbie. After you take the tie off, then I'd go for a Zaan:D. Good Luck with your quest.

That's easy. Given your environment, get the small Insingo or regular drop point. I use my knives daily for small and big jobs. Rarely, do I feel under gunned with the small Sebenza.
