I think you have two real options:
1) Continue to use it as-is.
2) Stick it in a drawer and buy another used original USA 12OT on eBay for about ten dollars or an unused example for $20 or less.
What's yours worth? Well, you're not a Gold Member so you're not supposed to ask, but I'll say it anyway, about $5. The Carhartt logo, which I can't even see in your pictures, would increase the knife's value or desirability to collectors only if it were in unused condition. IF that knife was new, the Carhartt logo was bright and clear, and the knife was still in the original box it could bring up to $25 at auction.
My point, it's not a high-dollar knife and the cost of fixing or modifying it would exceed the knife's value. Use it or set it aside, that's my advice.
