Help with picking a knife

I'm not even a spyderco fan, but I do respect them as a high quality brand, and I know that so many other people are fans, so the spyderco military or paramilitary in camo scales would be my first suggestion for a young man fresh out of basic training. It's a Great sized knife, quality steel blade, well suited for an edc military knife/military knife.

From an army veteren, Congrats to him, and to you as a parent. And good luck to him as well...

Side note: for an extra special gift, if he just graduated basic training as an 11b; (infantry soldier at ft. Benning), then get him the bigger military with the 4" blade. Trust me...
And a custom baby blue handle scales to match his cord would be a cherry on top! He earned it, and will continue to!

Any other job, the paramilitary is just fine.

I would vote for the spyderco military. Nice size still light and just an all around great blade. Here's a pic for size reference.

I love my pm2 but I'm surprised noone mentioned anything from Emerson? If I could take any knife with me if I was serving this country i would at least seriously checkout Emerson they're Knives aren't all fancy but they feel great in the hand and are tough as nails.but so is a pm2 so...

I am not into liner/frame locks so for me a Benchmade Contego seems appropriate.

It's large, strong, and super sharp.

Some of Cold Steel new offerings with the new CTS-XHP might also be a good choice, especially if you are gearing toward anything beyond 4" blade length, CS is almost the only player that offer big folders with a locking mechanism tough enough to match, that is, if you do not mind overseas (Taiwan in this case) produced knives...
