How much would vine work like this add value
To a knife? This is my second knife and it
Is spoken for. I just took swing in dark at 250$
O1 metal stabilized wood, mosaic pins. Is that too
Much or not enough?

You don't have the right membership to ask for price, but I'll say you did great work!

Gold membership or higher.Click on paid subscriptions at the top of the screen.

Like they said, you need a gold membership or higher to ask for values.

But if you made the knife, and that is your file work I think the value of your work is completely up to you.

Can you post a pic of the rest of the knife? I'm curious to what it looks like.

But...you have said it is "spoken for" and that you sell your work. Maybe you aren't trying to promote your work, but many have tried to in a similar "offhand" way. Promoting ones work requires an entirely different membership level than the one needed to ask about pricing.

I strongly suggest reading the FAQ before you run afoul of the mod staff (and the members who pay to promote their work).

It depends on the knife maker. For some K M this wouldn't add too much....I know one K M who usually

does file work on his customs, Alan Davis.

That work looks very good, only you know how long it took to do it.

When I buy custom knives I'm not usually looking at filework but some people do.

To respond to this, I don't even need to run afoul of the rule your post violates...
The value any feature adds (or subtracts) depends on the prospective buyer. Many people dislike such filework - to them (us, since I'm one of them) it adds zero value. Then there are people that might like it, but wouldn't pay extra for it; and others that would pay varying amounts for such work.

If the knife is already spoken for, though, isn't it a moot point? Obviously you put a price on it, and the buyer accepted it. Or are you trying to figure out if you could have charged more?

I think that pretty much sums it up.

For me I am torn on filework like that on a knife, it looks neat sometimes and other times it looks like garbage. Though it usually crosses the line in being far too decorative for my taste most of the time to consider a knife with such work.

SECTION 5 - Miscellaneous
WHAT IS MY KNIFE / GADGET / SPATULA / TUNING FORK WORTH ?!?!?!?!
In order to curtail potential abuse of membership privileges associated with the forums, questions regarding valuation of knives and collections are limited to those with a membership level which permits selling on this site. Accordingly, registered and basic members may not start or post in threads with such requests whether with the intent to sell or for informational purposes only. This rule applies throughout the site.

You need a Basic membership to post a trade thread,
a Gold membership to sell what you've bought,
a Knifemaker membership for what you have made,
or a Dealer membership if you sell for others.

Thanks guys you did answer my question. It seems that unless your knife value is high enough the extra hours in file work aren't covered and wasted... I don't want to disrespect the craftsman on here and will get a membership allowing such question. I'll also add more pics of my fist knife and this my second knife.

I would argue that, having made this knife himself, the OP is part of a special category of people and is obviously not the intended target of that rule. The intended target being people who just want to use the forum to discover the value of some knife they recently bought/found/inherited, and who plan to sell it on ebay or somewhere else after they are told what they should ask for it. I agree with this rule overall as such posts are parasitic in nature. However, since the OP has made this knife with his own labor, and is liable to contribute more to the forums in the future, I feel he is entitled to some input regardless of the rules of the forum. I'm not trying to be subversive here, I'm just trying to distinguish between obviously parasitic posts and posts by someone who could clearly contribute a good deal to the forums.

The moderator is being gracious. (That's good) he needs to buy a knife maker membership.

Values are very subjective with custom work. My personal opinion is that "IT DEPENDS" on your experience and history in the business. Big name = big price. No name = little price. It boils down to learning to walk before you can run.
