My buddy found a large rod of stainless on the side of the road. Luckily our shop neighbor is an analytical scientist:D, he tested it and found it to be 316 but with 2.5 times the amount of chromium. He's not a metals specialist so this was the best he could get us.
Any idea what I have here?

Thanks!

Could you post the full analysis (e.g. actual % of Chromium, etc)?

I got an email from a client with specs of some parts he wanted plated and the steel had over 35% chrome; if I stop by the shop today I'll pull up the email and get the name.

That is about the same as saying that Dolly Parton is Sand Duncan with 2.5X the amount of tits.

Just kidding, but if it is radically different from 316, it isn't 316.
By the same theory ( I think this will point out the vast difference):
cast iron is just W2 with 2.5X the amount of carbon
1095 is just 1040 with 2.5X the amount of carbon.
D2 is A3 with 2.5X the chromium
