Help with tactical & LED flashlights

There's also the new XO2 that's coming out, basically the same thing as the XO3 but with a traditional reflector rather than a TIR optic.

SureFire designs, manufactures and assembles it's products in it's own facilities in the USA.

Why would they make a flashlight and not put their own Lamp Assembly in it?
The Lamp Assemblies are key to what makes a SureFire special.

I've had a look at the Black Lion website and there is no way SureFire would lower its standards and manufacture that sort of stuff.

The website text makes reference to SureFire in that they've copied SureFire's look to a certain extent and the switch works in a similar way. Key features of SureFire Design are missing. They may look similar but they are not even close to being SureFires.

theunknowncook,
Perhaps you would care to tell us the patent number for SureFire's reflector design and explain why it isn't cited on SureFires along with the other patents?

Sandman_Bravo,
If you're searching for a tactical flashlight that is manufactured in the same factory as SureFire, but don't want to pay their high prices, consider Black Lion Gear. The only difference is the patented reflector which SureFire uses.

Okay, I sure didn't know about THAT. :)

Then what's the point? I have an XO3 and it ROCKS. The TIR optic RULES. Why bother with an XO2? If there's a reason, I'd like to know.

Some don' t require the throw capability of the TIROS system. But rather prefer a smooth wide beam with better spill. It will probably have a strait body thruout rather than the flared head that is required with the TIROS. Additionally, if it has a 5 hour run time, it may be the right light for some. My T3 sports a Surefire flip top filter cap that does an excellent job in smoothing out the beam. If you need the throw, just "flip" the lid open. That' s all. Good accessory for the best of both beam types.

My XO3 has a flared head. My new XO doesn't and neither does my old X1. They all have the TIROS system. They all have a smooth beam, and decent throw and spill. I don't believe TIROS requires the flared head.
