I recently rec'd this knife in a trade, it is new, unused. I believe it to be a Busse Battle Mistress, is it? Is it a variant? [grey unmarked blade...] What is it worth? Difficult to get? Can I sell it here if I needed?

and yes it has a cordura/kydex insert sheath...

I'm not the expert, but here's my opinion (for what it's worth). It does look like a Battle Mistress, sand or bead blasted. The Combat line (which the Battle Mistress falls under) are sterile (no markings), except for some collectors pieces. You'd have no problems selling it on the Bladeforums sale board, and I'd estimate it would go fairly quickly for somewhere between $295 and $325.

But, if you try it out, you probably won't want to sell it

The prices I mentioned are what, in my opinion only, they would move for quickly on the For Sale board of Bladeforums. It looks like a beauty, though, and may go for higher.

Thanks, I guess I was given some bad info then.

I was told they took 6 months or so to get and cost over $350...

Therefore it was worth over that for a right now type of purchase.

Well it is a well made knife, looks like it may get used!

Mike,

First off, welcome to the Busse Combat Forum.

Your blade seems to have had some handle modifications as the diamond quilted pattern appears to have been smoothed out. If you were to have this level of modification performed on a new Battle Mistress E from the shop you would have had to pay in excess of $425.00 and would have easily had to wait for 5-7 months on average. I don't know whether your modifications were done by the Busse Shop without seeing or knowing the history of the knife, but I can see that it has had some extensive handwork performed on it. As for the value of it on the used market. . . a number of factors would come into play. From what I can see.. .. it looks like a very nice blade. . .

We do not currently allow for sales on the Busse Forum but would encourage you to sell or trade it on the Individual For Sale Forum. I hope this helps,

Jerry Busse

It was my understanding that you could buy a Battle Mistress E (which this knife most definitely is) without the coating (in a satin finish, or bead/sand blast, I guess). But, this would cost an additional $75. If the handle has been modified, that would cost more money. So, I would estimate the value (atleast what was paid for it from the custom shop) to be atleast $450, maybe $500, as the base price for a BM E is $350. It would probably be somewhat of a collectors' item, and if you intend to hold it until the price appreciates and resell it later for a good profit, I would advise getting a regular BM E as a user. But, you may want to just use it, so go ahead!

Aw man, they're all blowing smoke. It is a fake. Only worth maybe $25. I'll give ya $30. Whatcha think?

Just kidding. The $425 - $475 range sounds better, only because of the mods which removes it from the standard production realm. You can pick up the standard line at some shows for less, in the lower range given in the earlier posting.

Thanks everyone!

The original owner waited about 8 months for it from the factory. It is untouched down to the un-symetric type sharpening Mr. Busse uses.

I'll go ahead and post it over on the Individual Sale section and hope something else sells so I can keep it!

As always, thanks for the professional replies to this novice.

Mike I can tell you everything about that blade from begining to end. Seeing as how it was mine. It was bought new. I didn't care for the diamond pattern so I (HAND) sanded (no machines were harmed in the modifying of this handle) handle. I then found a custom busse that I just had to have so I decided to sell my collection. But the hand sanging left some rough spots on the coating that took away the mint look. So I talked with Dave and made an apointment to have them bead blasted and resharpened to restore them to new condition. And in an email to you I wrote "it's not quite a variant though it is different from the rest of the combat line you will find since it has a bead blasted blade". Other than that she pretty much hung around my house looking sexy as hell. Oh yeah and Dave got me a brand new sheath for it as well. So the sheath you have is not original to the knife but it is new. Besides the black sheath looks better with the knife I think than the green. As of yet I have not recieved my sword that you sent me but I an anxiously awaiting its arrival. My advise to you is that you keep her. She will serve you well. Might just save your life one day to have a knife like that one. Hope you enjoy dude. Can't wait to check out my sword.
