HELP, yes, again

Call it the American Classic, or maybe New American Classic because it's an all-American reinvention of a classic design.

I'm not sold on any of the 3 names offered; though I think I like Baghdad Bowie the best.

Appalachian Toothpick??

I think the knife is sweet no matter which name you choose.

Pretty much what he said. I like the original name.

Love the knife. Not too keen on any of the names. If I had to choose one, I would go with number two. This is just my socially crippled opinion, but I think the three candidate names will have many different meanings to many different people and in a number of cases those meanings may not be very positive. It all depends on how and who you're trying to market the knife to. I think you could potentially limit your market a bit with these names. Of course, I might buy the knife regardless of the name, just as long as "DOA" or something similar was not etched into the blade or printed on the sheath. The knife's design and specs. seem good and I would think that that would be the reason people showed interest in the knife. Personally, I would like to see a more universally positive name - start with A. G. Russell and go from there. Some companies use mythological names. If you're really focused on the fighting/defensive market maybe something simple like the A. G. Russell Personal Defense or Personal Security knife. Heck, just give me a catalog number and call it A. G.'s Bowie #1 or #2 etc. I agree with cpurcell above, you can push buttons, maybe just not too hard - and do keep us posted as to when it will be available. I apologize for all the verbiage. Mike

I like the American Classic suggested above also.

I love the look of this one; I don't have a real fixed blade bowie and this one is really appealing. I would also lean toward the Baghdad Bowie. Wikipedia tells me the city has been around quite a while and has some interesting history: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baghdad

All three names sound kinda TOPS to me... How about the Sandbar? After the event which led to the notoriety of the Bowie, plus saying bowie in the name just makes it sound kinda stupid. You know its a bowie, I know its a bowie, do we really need the bowie to know its a bowie?

Personally take the Bowie off of the end of all those and all would do, but the whole patriotic service theme is kinda gimmicky. Why not sidestep this stupid tactical, "lets call it something militaryish and maybe people will buy it" phase and name it after an event that was not only signifigant for the knife but also for American History all together. The Sandbar fight was the real beginning for the bowie knife and all the decendants that followed, and Jim Bowie is an American Legend who showed the tenacity and perseverance that defines the American spirit not once but twice. Once when he earned his legendary status at the Sandbar fight and twice when he sealed it with his death at the Alamo.

Looks like a lotta people like number #2 though... (pun intended)

I don't like any of those names. I know this sounds extreme but i would steer away from the knife if it had a name like one of those. #3 is just crass and very unlike the image i have in my head of what a.g. russell (the company) is all about. "The patriot" is the second worst. It makes it sound cheesy. It just sounds like some marketing gimmick. Bagdad (why not baghdad?) is probably the best but when you put it in a list with the others all i hear is "we want to call a knife bagdad because that way people will think that soldiers use this knife in Baghdad to kill people". Lets get real, no one is actually using this knife as a weapon and real weapons don't have names like that. Sorry if that sounds harsh but as you know, a very wide range of people buy knives from you and you should know how they think. Ignoring the name, it's a good looking knife. Any idea what the price point will be yet?

Yes we're out of Iraq. But we're still in "the Sandbox" and will be for years.

(Names #2 &3 suck.)

I agree. And Sandbar echoes "sandbox".

Also, what's with the little square guards to jab a hand that slides up against them?

I agree with Esav. The square guards with holes aren't my thing but it's a beautiful knife. The steel should be familiar to a lot of us that had Camillus made Beckers and Carbon V CS's. Didn't Dan work out the heat treat for the old Beckers and CS, as well as the top of the line Camillus made knives with a similar steel? Looks like another nice knife you put together Mr.Russell.

How about:

The Russell Bowie? (Simple can be good)

The Iron Mistress? (If this hasn't already been used by others, nod to the Alan Ladd film about Jim Bowie)

Thanks to all. had to make the decision and have chosen to call it The Sandbox Bowie, thank you for the suggestion
