I'm making my first knife and I'm ready to rough out the hollow grind. I'm making a small skinner. The blade is 2 1/2" long and approx. 1 1/2" wide. Very round. I have read a few books on knife making and talked to a few people but I don't feel like I know everything I need to in order to get a good grind. The little bit of grinding I've already done looks bad. It's not far enough along to say that it is ruined but I don't have far to go to get there. Where can I get good info on grinding. Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

I've not seen it, but all I've heard is praise concerning Allan Blade's grinding video. He's selling them for $10 plus shipping, you can't beat that!! Check out the for sale by makers forum. He was advertising them in there. Other than that, buy any books you can, read em twice, then go back and read the sections that cover what you're working on at that particular time. Also, it's a good idea to do some grinding on steel that you can get for or near free. Even if it's not good knife steel, it will give you some practice without the worry of messing it up.
Even after 4 years, I cannot grind a blade without thinking I've ruined it. Makes no sense really, but I guess we're all overly critical of out own work. Go ahead and finish it, even if it isn't perfect. Just hang onto it and pull it out after your 10th or 12th blade and compare. You'll be amazed at your progress! Take care!! Michael
