I need someone to convince me about something. I've been bewitched by the Gurkha House Cheetlang Khukuri! Somebody talk me down from buying it instead of the HI Gelbu Special. It just beckons me with every passing moment. Play dirty if you must.

Bob

Just one question;
Does GH have a lifetime guarantee on their khukuris like H.I. does. It would make a difference to me.

When I was about to buy my HI BAS sombody told me that "you dont choose your khukri,it chooses you". I don't think that GH khukris are different from HI's in that matter,so dont fight it.Don't worry about not buying an HI model, the next khukri that chooses you might be a HI.....

Best regards
Daniel

Get both and do a comparison. You might be able to send one back (the one that you don't like) but you will have to ask Uncle Bill and Craig in advance.

Nothing, yet, my paycheck (well direct deposit so not really a check) was only about half of what I was expecting.

I've worked out a budget that allows me to afford a khukuri, but with little margin for any other expenses. So, it's either until I sell the Kris Cutlery, or next payday.
I want to check my timesheet tomorrow, make sure that they had me on for all of my hours. This so called blizzard also ended up costing me about $50 because I was supposed to work tonight but they closed at a little after noon.

BTW, now I'm back to admiring sirupatis, and kobras. New question for you guys, what do you think is the most exotic looking HI khukuri out there? The sirupatis have started eminating a series of siren's calls. The 25" is claiming to be one of the biggest baddest boys on the market, and the 15" is bragging about how sleek it looks and that it can do most of what the 25" can do. Then there are the kobras. They're basically mimicking the sirupatis.
I have the Ang Kholas bound and gagged at the moment, but both are still letting out a muffled boast of how they can go through steel drums.

Important note, the khukuris aren't really talking to me through the webpage, I'm not that crazy, yet.

I think the most exotic looking blades are the Kothimoda (Double fullers) the Hanuman (Again double fullers) and the YCS (Again double fullers), not necessarily in that order as their blades are all equally beutiful IMO. Can you tell I like fullers?

After those I would have to say the GRS's and then the 18th Century. After those it becomes impossible for me to choose and they are all equally beautiful and exotic in their own way.

Bob we know the truth or don't you really hear the khukuris talking among themselves and to you?
I hear them and thought everyone did.
Tsimi hears them for sure and that's why he believes he doesn't have HIKV, the khukuris keep telling him that so he will continue to get more, I mean how many khukuris does one person need after all?!?!?!?!

Bob,

They WILL talk to you sooner or later.

Rog

p.s.

My advice is to buy HI. Their stuff is made by a Nepal owned company. the people who make them, sell them. No intermediaries.

Flow chart:

H.I. >>>>>>>>>>>>Customer.

.....and the U.S.A manager is a helluva nice guy.

Yeah, I more or less ruled out GHs last night. I realized that the sirupatis and kobras from HI are probably very close in peformance and aesthetics to the Cheetlang, and from the reviews have solid history of having harder better wearing blades. Plus I would have felt awkward actually buying the GH after spending this much time on the HI forum, and the endless stream of behind the scenes emails to Uncle Bill. Most shopkeepers would have probably glared at me, and said "BUY SOMETHING OR GET OUT!" by now.

Bob

Bobwill, take a look at the Malla. Ohhhh, son, that is one sturdy, sleek design! Then if you like curvy *and* big, the YCS. Or get both so I can enjoy them vicariously...

:
Stephen you think the YCS is big?
I just pulled it out of its scabbard and I suppose it is big, at 17 inches, but the weight makes it feel like a much smaller khukuri and yet it does cut like a much bigger one too me.
And perhaps it's because most of my khukuri's are in the 16"- 18" lengths that makes them seem small to me.
My GRS and Banspati are Big.

Something funny though... my 14 3/4" slim blade Aregentine Short Sword still seems like a big knife to me at 20" oal.
It keeps getting closer and closer to being 100 years old, made in 1909 the year my mom was born and 2 years after Oklahoma became a state!!

Bob,

I sleep better at night since my room has Khukuris on all four sides.

When I first started at this forum, I posted several messages and talked to Bill for a number of monthes. I finally bought the Khukuri that started it all, the 25 inch Kobra. However, the people at this forum are very nice, informative, and forgiving of a lot--especially about Khukuri exuberance.

There are also a lot of college students here that sympathize with your predicament. Also, a lot of working people that have money constraints for various reasons. We understand wanting something really badly, and just having to face the realities of where money should go. I am actually on full disability because of kidney disease, but have very good and understanding family.

Don't worry about taking up the space or time. You will eventually get that Khukuri, then a Tarwar, a Katana, another Khukuri, a Kharda, then another Khurkuri,...AHHHGH...AHHHGH....HIKV!!

I hope that bcaffrey doesn't mind that I'm posting one of his pics, but here goes.
<img src = "http://albums.photopoint.com/j/View?u=185132&a=1406520&p=26688648&Sequence=0&res=high">

This is the pic that might have just sold me on the Gelbu Special, something to put the blade into proportion against.
You have some beautiful pics of some beautiful stuff, bcaffrey.
