Question is what are your intended uses for the knife?

General cutting use? Camping? All round use for about any thing?

If your thinking Ka-bar shorty, I suggest looking at the Navy Mk.1 if your looking at that for blade length.

I'd say for general use a BK-7 if you don't mind the thumb ramp, or Turok as listed above (Its the top relief spine cut that first put me off of it, but I been looking hard at it). For general purpose around 5 inches, jack of all trades but a bit literal thick the BK2 comes to mind a thinner one but with the thumb ramp is the BK-10. Thinner and smaller in size than the BK 2 a BK16 as stated earlier.

Great replies all, but we're still trying to get an idea of your intended uses. Right tool for the job and all that. I'm thinking the BK-16 might be best for you, now. The biggest problems I would have with your last one on your Amazon list are the upper half of the cross guard getting in the way of your thumb if you should want to choke up on the blade (the Dog's Head and USN Mk1 virtually eliminate this, the Beckers don't have these at all) and the serrated bottom half of the blade (I got away from blade serrations entirely but cor one knife, my SAK Trekker). The forte of the blade is where you're going to do your notching and feathering and I've never done these tasks well with serrations in that spot. But this presumes traditional bushcrafty type activity. For all I know you're wanting it to work in an Army construction batallion!

Then again, you can file off the upper cross guard. Many folks do and it's an easy job.

I would avoid the first 2 in your list - they are basically 3/4 sized copies of the 3rd knife.
if the 1271 is the one you best like the looks of, go for it.
It's the largest one of the choices you've selected or that anyone here has suggested, which may or may not meet your needs>

this is the Turok suggested above:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Ka-Bar-Uni...ie=UTF8&qid=1537661741&sr=1-7&keywords=ka-bar

From looking at reviews it seems th 1271 blade is thinner. The kid inside me wanted the bigger knife, but it probably isn’t the most pracital choice :)

The Turok looks about the best value over here compared to us prices. When is uncle Donald gonna sort that trade deal?

I like the BK-7 a lot.

It will be a general purpose knife. Occasional camping and to assist onsite with my self build.

I’ll take a look at the BK-16.

I’ve moved away from the last one completely.

I really like the dogs head but not it’s sheath. I prefer the sheaths on the green and black handled models. Seem to hold the blade better and will stand up to a Manchester winter.

How do Eickhorn compare to Ka-Bar?

They are cheaper over here to to being manufactured in the EU.

Can’t post a link.spam filter.

I heated up the tab on a hard plastic sheath and pushed it in a hair to hold the Dogshead. Works Great and took 5 minutes. It will only hold on the lower guard but it is tight and can be adjusted to your liking. Before.....

After....

really? all the prices I'm seeing are higher.
I'm not familiar with the brand, so can't comment on a quality comparison - although they are sold here in the US as well.
they're stainless, which may be a plus in Manchester.
blade length and spine thickness of their bushcrafter is similar to the BK16, although the shapes are different.

They are cheaper when compared to the rrp. US goods get taxed ridiculously high coming into the EU. Most of the charges are hidden. We pay 20% on the cost of goods and shipping, plus import duty and handling fees.

Your president is refreshingly honest. I like him.

Just ordered a Turok.

Thanks for all the advice. It’s aprecuated.

I prefer the military look of the other knives but I think the Turok will be a bit more functional on site.

The handle shape and sheath swung it. Not bad at £98 either.
It's a KaBar and a excellent choice:thumbsup::thumbsup: Stick around here and post lots of pictures of it. And pictures of Bacon we like Bacon.... And Beer

Just impulse bought a Gerber covert to go with it.

Seems like a cool lil knife.

I agree. The Turok is a quality knife, has a great sheath.

I’ve been toying with the idea of filing down part of the swedge to flatten in out. When push cutting with your thumb it can get uncomfortable. Should be a quick and relatively easy mod and suit my uses a little better.

All in all though it’s a great knife and works great at all kinds of tasks. Enjoy your new Ka-bar!

I’m happy with my choice. I had initial buyers remorse because I prefer the military look, but the Turok is better suited to me needs.

I’m tempted to order a 2211, but I’m not that keen on the sheath and I’ve read it is has a weak tang?
