Help!!!

I have to admit that I don't know what "thumb capping" is, ....

"Thumb capping" is exactly what it sounds like. Capping one's thumb over the end of the hilt. It is commonly called "ice-pick" (edge-in) or "reverse grip" (edge-out), both with the point down.

Since we don't know which he prefers, edge-in or edge-out, I suggest you get a knife with a rounded or semi-rounded hilt (the butt of the handle). That way, he can use "thumb capping" for either grip type. If the hilt is slanted too much one direction or the other or the blade/handle has too much angle (not on a fairly straight plane), being able to "thumb cap" in both directions will be too uncomfortable or even impossible.

Also, by asking for a Kydex sheath, I agree that he wants a fixed blade. And because of the "time crunch", most customs are out. There are a few online dealers that carry a some customs but they are often on backorder so make sure the tell you they have it if you order one.

This is the one I would recommend. Can thumb-capping in either direction and the sheath system for this knife is great. Steel is S30V (many think that the best steel available for knives today). Blade length is 5". I'm sure he would be happy with it. I sure would be. http://www.knifeworks.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=3123

I haven't decided yet. I have saved all of the suggestions and I think I'm going to trick him into picking his own. That way I can't go wrong.

Now I did it. Accidently left my first post on the Custom Knife Thread where it looks like just adds for dealers. Hope I won't be stabbed at sunrise.
Anyway I'll try it over here.

I bought a stag handle knife at the Sturgis Rally about 10 years ago. Beauty with an eagle head carved out on the handle and etched in the blade. Anyway the guy who made it was nicknamed "Cricket' that's how he signed it. Does anyone remember this guy or know anything about him.

Hey Staghorn,

You might want to start your own thread if you want some responses to this.

Man is that BRK Hedgehog a sweet looking knife! right when I thought my wallet might catch a break too!:D

Back to the topic at hand...

I've heard nothing but good about Dozier knives, and have long lusted after an Arkansas Toothpick myself.

Another one to consider is Bud Nealy. I used to have one of his Pesh Kabz, and it was a very, very nice knife. Practical, and easy to carry on a daily basis. Although, that being said, I don't think I'd want another Pesh Kabz due to the unusual blade tip not really suiting me. He has lots of other models worth checking out, and is definitely good people to deal with.

Good luck, and please let us know what you/ he decide on!
