Help!!!!!!

anyone suggest the makers on the forum that you all like.

bob dozier makes many knives in your price range. check dozierknives.com and agrussell.com

he uses d2 steel which will hold an edge very well and is very sharp to begin with.

my favorite is busse, but you wont get much in the 200 price range.

+1 on Bark River (you'd be lucky to find a Hell Razor for twice your price)

Alright how about a Scrapyard Dogfather. For $140 I guarantee you that you will not find a knife anywhere for the money that will outperform it.

There's a Swamp Rat Battle Rat on the exchange right now for $210 shipped. Another knife you can't beat for the money.

well i think im going to get a scrapyard dogfather!
unless someone knows of something better!

sorry to burst your bubble, but they are gone for now. more probably coming, or the secondary market when the first batch ships, but for now none at the scrapyard site.

they suck?

It's not that the knives suck. A lot of folks don't care for the marketing techniques of the owner. There is a current thread about Lynn Thompson. Reading that will tell you way more than you will ever want to know about every opinion that anybody anywhere has about Cold Steel: the owner, the knives, the designs, the marketing, knives in general, the law in general, lawyers in general, generals in general......ad infinitum, ad nauseum.

hmm so scrapyard is the way to go if they had any

Be patient it won't be long before you can find them in the exchange or Scrapyard offers more. You won't be disapointed. It's nearly impossible to break the Dogfather. If you do manage to however they'll replace it.

opinions and mileage will vary, but, uhh, im gonna go bite my tongue again. :)

I'm not! The problem isn't exactly the knives. More like the guy running the company. Many folks on BF think that Lynn Thompson is a scum-bag and a rip-off artist who actually goes as far as calling others rip-off artists.

He's also written articles in the past about the so-called shady business practices of his competitors. Such as his negative articles regarding 420J2 steel used for knife blades, and companies that promote the karambit as a good knife design...... But then when he realizes that his competitors ARE making money with both of those ideas, he starts selling knives made out of 420J2 and promotes his own karambit design. Can you say hypocrite?

Add to that the fact that ColdSteel doesn't actually make knives. Camillus was making them for ColdSteel. Now, someone else is making them for Coldsteel.

I actually like some of LT's designs, but there are others on this forum who seem to have genuine hate for the man. I just hate his less-than-ethical business practices.

hey guys,
price is to be no over $200
i want a fixed blade, mostly a survival or hunting knife.
just needs to be sharp and the blade needs to be able to hold an edge and be durable,
any suggestions?

Hiya Nowell, now we are a little clearer on what you want I would suggest looking at Ranger Knives...maybe the RD6 !
I don't think the Scrapyard Dogfather is the type of blade you want although the Scrapper 6 might be another option when they become available again.
The Blackjack Grunt at the top of the pic or the Ka-Bar Impact below it might also be ok for your needs !
